On January 7, celebrate the New Year with artists and change makers at Target First Saturday. Highlights include performances by Tank and The Bangas, Discwoman, and Cakes Da Killa; a pop-up feminist publishing workshop with Pilot Press; and a screening of Suited.

Throughout 2017, Target First Saturdays highlight female-identified and gender-nonconforming artists and organizations that challenge gender conventions. This programming is part of A Year of Yes: Reimagining Feminism at the Brooklyn Museum, which celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art.

Brooklyn Museum's Target First Saturday events attract thousands of visitors to free art and entertainment programs each month. Some Target First Saturday programs have limited space and are ticketed on a first-come, first-served basis. *Denotes a ticketed event.

5 pm Music: Tank and The Bangas is one of the most distinctive music groups to come out of New Orleans, combining elements of rhythmic soul and spoken word with such genres as rock, gospel, funk, and folk.

5-9 pm Pop-Up Feminist Publishing: Join Pilot Press, a DIY feminist publishing house by Jen Kennedy and Liz Linden, to duplicate, bind, and publish your work. Bring printouts of what you'd like to publish.

6-7 pm Curator Tour: Edward Bleiberg, Curator of Egyptian, Classical, and Ancient Near Eastern Art, shares insights into the exhibition A Woman's Afterlife: Gender Transformation in Ancient Egypt.

*6 pm Film: Suited (Jason Benjamin, 2016, 85 min.) captures transformative moments at Bindle & Keep, a bespoke tailoring company in Brooklyn that caters to gender-nonconforming and transgendered clients. The documentary reveals the ways well-fitting garments and self-fashioning can garner deeper affirmations around identity. The screening is followed by a talkback hosted by dapperQ with Anita Dolce Vita, Jason Benjamin, Daniel Friedman, Debbie-Jean Lemonte, and Rae Tutera.

*6-8 pm Hands-On Art: Taking inspiration from A Woman's Afterlife: Gender Transformation in Ancient Egypt, make a mask that creates a new identity.

6:30-7:30 pm Pop-Up Gallery Talks: Enjoy ten-minute discussions about works of art in the exhibition Marilyn Minter: Pretty/Dirty.

7-9 pm Music: Brooklyn-based collective Discwoman celebrates the diversity of female-identified DJs who are shifting the male-dominated culture of the industry. Sets by BEARCAT and SHYBOI.

8 pm Book Club: Daniel José Older reads from his new novel, Battle Hill Bolero, the latest from his popular Bone Street Rumba series, with stories set in Brooklyn. He discusses the art of writing sci-fi that centers on protagonists of color in Brooklyn. Followed by a book signing in the Museum Shop.

8:30-9:30 pm Dance and Workshop: Take part in a dance workshop and enjoy performances afterwards. Presented by Brooklyn Dance Festival.

9 pm Music: Rapper Cakes Da Killa rings in the New Year with refreshing rhymes and a unique sound that mixes various musical influences and pays tribute to underground culture.
