THE DROWSY CHAPERONE premiered in Sao Paulo in August and, so far, it has been a huge success. The best thing? Tickets are free of charge! The idea is to give everybody a chance to attend a musical and thus create a loyal audience in the genre.

Famous actors like Saulo Vasconcelos (The Phantom of Opera, Mamma Mia!, Beauty and The Beast), Sara Sarres (Cats, The West Side Story, Shrek) and Kiara Sasso (Mamma Mia!, The Sound of Music, Beauty and the Beast) are part of the cast. Ivan Parente has a flawless performance playing The Man In The Chair. Besides them, Luciano Andreys, Andrezza Massei, Carol Costa, Luana Zenun, Frederico Reuter and Luiz Pacini are also in the cast. Stella Miranda and Paula Capovilla alternate in the role of the Chaperone. This project was developed by Cleto Baccic, who is also the producer of the musical and plays the role of Aldolpho. Miguel Falabella is responsable for the brazilian adaptation.

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE concerns a middle-aged, asocial musical theatre fan; as he plays the record of his favorite musical, the (fictional) 1928 hit The Drowsy Chaperone, the show comes to life onstage as he wryly comments on the music, story, and actors. Falabella's adaptation takes place in a famous and tradicional neighbourhood of Sao Paulo - Barra Funda. In the original story, Man in The Chair lives in New York.

The musical is staged at Teatro Popular do SESI, where it should be playing until July 2014.
