The legendary Dr. John has been added to the Sunday, August 13 program at the 2006 JVC Jazz Festival-Newport.

Dr. John joins, among others, The New Orlean's Preservation Hall Jazz Band, John Pizzarelli, Jane Monheit, Savion Glover and Christian Scott in this year's JVC Jazz lineup.

He is perhaps best known for his 1973 hit song, "Right Place, Wrong Time", which reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Dr. John's music was included in the "The High Rollers Social and Pleasure Club", a musical revue that had a brief Broadway run in 1992.

His new album, "Mercenary", was recently released on Blue Note Records.
