The Circuit Theatre Company, a critically-acclaimed, IRNE-nominated company run and operated by young theatre artists from across the country, is celebrating its fifth season by presenting three epic productions that explore questions of history, identity, and personal narrative in America. Now more than ever, Circuit hopes to celebrate the voice of young artists in Boston, while pushing the boundaries of what theatre can do and be. The season will feature the world premiere of an as-of-yet untitled new play by John Kuntz, commissioned by Circuit, at the Boston Center for the Arts. Its season will also include the Boston premieres of "The Walk Across America for Mother Earth" by A.R.T favorite Taylor Mac and Ellen Maddow and "Welcome to Arroyo's" by Kristoffer Diaz (playwright of "The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity") at the OBERON. All three shows are entirely produced, directed, designed, and acted by young theatre professionals.

Circuit's fifth anniversary season will culminate with the world premiere of a commissioned new work by award-winning Boston playwright John Kuntz. Kuntz is known for his critically-acclaimed, strange, darkly comic plays with detailed pop cultural mythologies (The Hotel Nepenthe, The Salt Girl). This particular project seeks to bring his unique voice to the subject of American history and our shared identity. Circuit's artistic director Skylar Fox helms a team of eight actors in this development/production process, to build a unique theatrical experience that only Circuit could create.

"The Walk Across America For Mother Earth" depicts a ragtag band of activists marching across the nation to raise awareness about a nuclear testing site in Nevada, among other environmental and social injustices. Based on a real protest in 1992, this raucous, commedia dell'arte-infused show combines music, dance, and comedy to tell a dynamic, stimulating story about finding love, growing up, and negotiating the differences between idealism and reality.

"Welcome to Arroyo's" is a fast-paced slice of life in a family-owned bar-sorry, lounge-on the Lower East Side of New York City. A Greek chorus of DJs spin, mix, and rap-narrate this tale of cultural heritage and artistic expression.

The John Kuntz premiere will play at the Virginia Wimberly Theatre at the Boston Center for the Arts from August 2-16. "The Walk Across America for Mother Earth," directed by Christopher Annas-Lee, will play at the OBERON July 9-24. "Welcome to Arroyo's," directed by Jen Diamond, will play at the OBERON July 10-27.
