So which show will be next? Heart of Rock and Roll? Great Gatsby?

This just means we're one step closer to seeing Eva Noblezada do it at Encores in 2043.

Seems like Gatsby will likely wait until the grosses dip consistently below $1 million.

I'm sorry, but why tf Gatsby would close if it does better than 80% of the current shows? People write some asinine stuff here sometimes

This was a given flop.  There was nor is any audience for this production.  Clear it for something better.  No disrespect to Lempicka fans but a better show will come along.

Heart of R&R probably has deeper pockets to hold them open a little longer. Maybe a few more weeks than Lempicka?

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Heart’s massive flash sale is clearly a last ditch effort to build buzz and more word of mouth. But right now, all attention is on the Tony nominees. I really cannot imagine it still being around come Memorial Day.

What a shame… This was one of my favorites of the new musicals  I can’t believe Suffs and hell‘s kitchen were nominated over this.  If you haven’t seen it, I would urge you all to see it. It’s a beautiful musical.

It was ambitious in scope but ultimately too messy and unfocused to amount to a truly good biomusical.

One of my friends who diehard loved it was complaining about them closing when they had three Tony nominations and I had to explain to him that they don’t always amount to sales and also the show had no chance of winning any of the categories

Heart did not expect any TONY nominations and budgeted accordingly.

The have enough money in reserve to get them to June when tourists arrive.

GOOD PRODUCING......

That makes my heart happy. I love that little show so much and I’m rooting for it to win.

I’m not surprised, but I am sad that they weren’t able to pull together a more coherent show. There’s so much neat stuff in this, not to mention a pretty great score, and it’s all let down by an overworked hodgepodge book and haphazard staging. Maybe this’ll be one of those musicals that lives on as a tantalizing cast album.

Did you see Illinoise? Now, that's a beautiful musical Lempicka we found to be a mess not great and listening to a female lead with pitch issues along with singing mostly flat does not make for a great evening at the theatre but when i saw it again with Mariand it was more enjoyable as she was refreshing to see in the role as (still messy all over the place with plots) Eden was struggling vocally and needed vocal rest!

I’d seriously love to see Arielle Jacobs, Aléna Watters, or Aisha Jackson play Tamara somewhere in the coming years.

Considering how bad Lempicka is about accurately quoting people on social media, maybe the producers aren't closing it?

The whole thing is a shame. This was the most ambitious of the many half baked new musicals that hit Broadway this Spring. The show really invoked Sondheim for me. Yes, because of all the singing about color and light, but also because much like Merrily We Roll Along, I think the show can still be fixed down the line.

Eva Noblezada is the perfect age to play her NOW! And, based on the performance I saw, probably would have been better than Eden. I agree about Micaela Diamond too.

Wonder if it's something where the authors try tinkering with it sans-Chavkin at a regional theatre (like was done with Big Fish) or if they're ready to move on and this is the final version of the show. I found the writing so unsatisfying. So much missed potential.

Sonia Friedman is a co-producer on this and has a good relationship from what I hear with Marisa deLempicka (co-producer)....so, Maria Friedman to the rescue at some point in the future? She made Merrily work many many years later. It's the book for this that's problematic!

Don't pin too much hope to that :)

I do wonder if this could have more success in the UK with a different director/creative team/cast, even if the text remains the same. Somewhere like the Donmar.

Does it need the Jamie Lloyd treatment?

Sorry if I’ve missed this somewhere- but is there a cast recording in the works?

I sometimes worry that Amber Iman, who I have seen often but not in this, is destined to be in shows that aren’t good enough for her. She’s in two other musicals that are intended for Broadway. Both need a fair amount of work, and Iman is wasted in Hippest Trip, the Soul Train musical. She’s the star of Goddess and was terrific, but that show had book (and score, except for a few songs) problems that I fear will be tough to overcome barring a major overhaul.

Rachel Chavkin seems to have emerged relatively unscathed from all of this. (It doesn’t hurt that Hadestown keeps plugging away across the street.) The reviews were bad but the most pointed critiques didn’t seem to be aimed at her.
