Does anyone know how long Kara will be staying in Wicked because I want to go see it this summer but I want to see Kara in the show so I want to know if there will be a different Glinda.

Thanks!

There hasn't been an announcement regarding how long she's staying. But no news is good news on that front, so hopefully you'll be able to see her.

I saw her in March and she was wonderful! She signed my play bill and took a selfie with me after the show, very nice lady!

Yeah, what the other guy said. No news is good news on that. She was in the touring production and now on the broadway show. It's safe to say he loves being part of the show. Unless she books a part in another show or requires some sort of vocal rest, she won't be leaving any time soon.

I must say, I'm very surprised when people say that they thought she was wonderful. I've seen the show an unmentionable amount of times and I thought she was the worst Glinda I had ever seen. I also went with a non theatre goer who had never seen the show and they were not moved by her either. Maybe she was sick? She kept touching her chest, if she wasn't then she does not have the notes for the high soprano stuff. Also, what is up with allowing Glindas to be super contemporary? Jenni Barber made similar choices. I know Wicked doesn't have a time period, but using phrasings and making nods to behavior from the past 15 years does not work for this show in my opinion. Glinda is not a California girl from 2010, and for the love of all the past what? 8 Glindas, she is not stupid. Even if she is stupid it's not your job to play her like that.

I haven't seen Kara in Wicked, but I agree with Visceral_Fella that many actresses who have played Glinda dumb her down too much and are too modern with her. She is a person, not a caricature.

I don't mind Kara. But I see where you are coming from.

Overall, I have found that the Glinda's on the West End add more depth to the character. eg. Their Popular's seem more... Well Posh school girl rather than giggling dumb blonde stereotype. (The British accent probably contributes there, but it's definitely more 'toned down' than Broadway) Also I find they have a lot more of an obvious emotional bond with the Elphaba's rather than playing for laughs too often. Maybe it is just the WE women I have seen, but I did note the difference on my several Broadway trips.

She's a fantastic Glinda and different in many ways from other Glindas I've seen.  If you tweet your question to her, she might respond.

By the way, her husband Kevin Massey is fantastically talented as well.  On Broadway he's mostly done understudying, but I saw him twice in "Little House on the Prairie," and he was excellent.  I hope he gets a role of his own soon!
