A while ago, I watched Grease 2 and despite what everyone says, I actually liked it and not because, as some Tumblr sjw-types might insinuate, the man changing for the woman fits within the feminist paradigm modern girls are conditioned to accept. I actually think it has some really cool songs and such that are missed out because people hate Grease 2 because they think it's some sort of direct sequel to Grease when, actually, despite the 2, they are more companion movies.

Anyway, enough ranting and on to my real point. I don't recall if any stage productions of Grease 2 have ever been done and I think that it should head to Broadway. It's far enough in the future that barely any people would remember the movie and not a lot of people would remember Rachel's dissing of it on Glee season 2. Some songs are just begging to be expanded to the stage like the bowling-night fun of "Score Tonight" and the fantasy dream sequence that is "Love Will Turn Back The Hands Of Time" and Broadway's full of awesome young talent who could rock those roles. So, could Grease 2 work on Broadway?

No. Just NO.

I guess you don't realize that "Grease 2" is a regular staple on TV. Just a quick search shows it's on LOGO twice this week, alone.

The movie was never high on my list but the soundtrack was a favorite of mine when I was younger.

i looooove GREASE 2!!! i think it's better than the original. I really don't understand why people seem to hate it. The music is catchy, the stars are hot and it's funny.

It was one of my sister's favorite movies (I want a C-O-O-L R-I-D-E-R.) and she used to play that and Grease (the first one) over and over and over (Let's do it for our country...the red, white and the blue...) so I'm not sure I could ever want to (I'll be your girl for all seasons...all the way through-oooo) sit through that again since I suffer from flashbacks.

Horrible, terrible, horrible movie.

It was also horrible.

I saw it opening day in a movie theatre. I've been scarred for life ever since. I walk around in a black veil now, lighting candles in random churches, mosques, and synagogs.

Yes ... it was that bad.

best.... so it is safe to say that gifting it to you (it's on sale at Amazon with shipping for less than $4.00) wouldn't inspire an OMG I LOVE YOU response to the package when it arrives?

Though I didn't see it when it was first released in theatres, I do remember quite vividly the countless friends who never stopped watching it on cable. They were obsessed with it. I did see a few musical numbers, but never the entire film.

Now, about 2 years ago I FINALLY watched it. Oh, boy... what a treat. I went and bought the DVD that exact day and re-watched the film later again.

It definitely is a hot mess of a film but its quite intentional and definitely works for the film completely, hence its cult status these days. Even Michelle Pfeiffer is surprised but quite happy with the long-standing obsession people have with the film.

The songs, the obvious older actors playing high school students (heck even Didi Conn makes an extended cameo!), the plot... all delicious silly perfection.

I know that a theater in Australia was finally given license to stage Grease 2 as a musical. I can't really remember too many details about the show and I can't seem to find their website anymore. I'm almost positive it was done as a parody. A theater in the West End also did a concert version in August of 2012.

I love this movie (and think it is better than the first movie) and think that it could work really well on stage. The staging ideas alone are delightful. And the music is really clever and fun. I don't know if it should head to Broadway but perhaps an Off Broadway theater with a big enough budget to stage motorcycle chases. I could certainly see this working in regional productions.

I remember when Catcus Flower was playing at the Westside Theatre a few years back with Maxwell Caulfield. When a friend had an extra ticket I knew I had to try to get my picture taken with him after the show.

And he was the nicest, sweetest guy - even asking my name so that he could personalize my playbill. Later, when I posted the photo on my Facebook it immediately garnered a lot of attention. A few "Hello to Michael Carrington" comments and such. But there was an immediate reaction from my friends of various ages.

A dear friend of mine from that unique website known only to serious cinephiles, FanEdit.org, once carefully edited together Grease and Grease 2 to create one "fan edit" film called Grease: The Rydell High Chronicles. Not bad for a fan work, and it actually met with a lot of praise from cast members of the original films.

I don't want to give away the flow and chronology of the edit entirely, but to name some minor details of Steve's work:

* After the opening titles with Danny and Sandy at the beach, the Grease animated titles play out without any visual changes - but with the song "Back To School Again" from Grease 2 rather than Barry Gibb's song. (Amazingly, BTSA is completely in sync with the visuals, as though it were originally intended for the first movie.)

* Both sets of characters are seen arriving for the first day of school.

* The entire gym class scene from Grease 2, where Michael asks Frenchy how to attract Stephanie, is inserted between the backseat sex and "Greased Lightning" scenes from the first film.

* DiMucci visits Michael in his fall-out shelter the same night that Danny and Sandy go to the Frosty Palace.

* Louis attempts to seduce Sharon with "Do It For Our Country" on prom night.

* The entire chunk of Grease 2 from the Cool Rider arriving at the gas station to Michael and Stephanie's burger joint date is inserted between the Hand Jive and drive-in ("Sandy") scenes. This actually makes the lapse of time in Danny and Sandy's story at this point more realistic and understandable.

* The carnival (from the first movie) and luau (from the second movie) now take place on the same day. He bridged these together using a little editing sleight-of-hand after "You're the One That I Want," Miss McGee announces over the P.A. that the students should now report to the luau.

* Since Grease ends in the daytime and Grease 2 ends at night, he had to make an ending that wrapped up the stories for all characters, as the first movie's characters would otherwise disappear fifteen minutes too soon. He managed to do this, even keeping the "flying car" ending intact. (How'd he do it? Get ahold of the edit and find out.)

* As both followed the same "yearbook pages" style, he combined the ending credits of both films.

It's a terrible movie that I always enjoy watching. There is quite a bit of fun to it, but there is no sense in pretending it has anything more than a fun cast and a couple of decent songs.

I LOVED it! Still do! I actually enjoy this movie more than the original. I understand why a lot of people don't like the movie though. I am a person that likes movies a lot of people don't like- Catwoman for example. Plus, Maxwell Caulifield was smoking hot in Grease 2. Just Saying- it's hard to disagree with that. LOL

The worst movie I have ever had the displeasure of sitting through. That said, this thread reflects the opinion that many of my friends have: Grease 2 was a better a movie than Grease. I don't really get that.

I do enjoy the first film despite its cheesy flaws which mostly consisted of the car race and the family-friendly adaptation of the script. But the cast, the songs, and even the screenplay were still miles above Grease 2. Grease 2 was simply an adaptation of the first Grease film, but there was a concerted effort to try and restore some of the raunchy edge the stage production originally had, but the direction, screenplay and score all seemed as lazy as the concept. They tried to make lightning strike twice, but it felt more like static cling.

It is one of the cheesiest movies. And I love it with all my soul. It is so much fun to watch and makes me happy all the time.
"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

I'm ashamed to admit I've seen it dozens of times on cable. (Yes, I'm one of those.)

Adrian Zmed is electric and Maxwell Caulfield is so pretty, I don't care that he can't sing. (Caulfield and I share a mutual friend and I hear he is indeed a really nice guy.)

Michelle Pfeiffer sings quite well, actually, but her songs are crap.

And why do you cast Judy Garland's daughter without giving her something decent to sing?

But I'm sure I'll watch it again the next time I stumble over it on cable.
