Wow. Could they be more off the mark? This doesn't need a big name, this needs a larger-than-life personality. NPH is so wrong for this it's not even funny.
Really? Because it looks to me like they said, "Well, if we're ever gonna get this on Broadway, we need a big name, likely one who's gay." They couldn't have done a worse job if they picked a random name out of a hat.
I will reserve actual full judgment until I see it, but right now, color me very unimpressed with this casting.
Anyone find it conceited that in EVERY interview he did before the Tonys he said they were moving back to NYC so DAVID could do theatre and he could stay home? Guess David is just going along with it in fear of being let go.
Maybe years ago when he was struggling to get out from under the shadow of Doogie Howser and taking unexpected roles in stuff like Rent, he'd have had something to prove and given more of a compelling performance. I fear we're just going to get a "star turn" from Mr. Showmanship.
I really do hate to be that guy, but if the situation calls for it, I'll be that guy. At this stage in his career, there is no one more wrong for this part, and I will stake my professional future on it. Given that at least five people either don't know how he'll do with it or are being cynical about the subject besides me, I'd say odds are pretty damn good I'm right.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to go listen to some Peaches and Herb. "Reunited and it feels so good..."
The man just announced he's playing the role in like ten months. Lets at least give him the benefit of the doubt before expecting to be underwhelmed. Yes, it's odd casting, but that hardly means anything. Good direction and a geniune care for crafting a strong performance can go a long way, even if someone is miscast. Sutton Foster in ANYTHING GOES, anyone?
Nearly everyone (me included) expected Katie Finneran to be perfect for Hannigan and look how that worked out. You really never know. Updated On: 6/17/13 at 03:14 PM
I fear this may be a little too high for his voice - no? I love NPH and I love Hedwig, not sure I love them togethe but will def. be there to see it and rock out!
"Observe how bravely I conceal this dreadful dreadful shame I feel."
