The Wetumpka Depot Players have been putting actors on stage to perform over the last 34 years. The search is now on for volunteers who enjoy production from the backstage view. The award winning Depot Players will host a volunteer recruitment party on Thursday February 20 at 6pm at the Depot Theatre. Those interested in learning about Depot volunteer opportunities are encouraged to attend. "As we continue to grow, we are constantly challenged with meeting the needs of our productions," said Depot executive director, Kristy Meanor.

"Many people think you need specialized skills to work on the production/artistic side of what we do, but that is not always the case," said Meanor. "If someone is interested in a particular area, we can teach them what that need to know to be successful and have a lot of fun doing it. If you can swing a hammer, sew a button, enjoy working with people or would rather hide out in our lighting booth, we can put you to work. While appearing on our stage may not be for everyone, there is a place for everyone at the Depot."

"Don't worry that you want fit in," said Gayle Sandlin, Depot volunteer. "Whatever you bring to the table, the existing Depot volunteers will help you plug your interests in to contribute to whatever project the Depot has going. The most rewarding part of volunteering at the Depot for me has been meeting the most interesting conglomeration of people. Once you work on a Depot project (whether contributing a short amount of time or more extensive hours) you establish a permanent bond with those you work with."

The recruitment party, which includes light refreshments, will focus on the following areas of need: directing, stage managing, costuming, set construction, lighting/technical. Those who attend will be given a tour of the theatre and attend a short session with other volunteers with specialized skills in the areas of need. Adults and young people ages 16 and older are invited to attend and encouraged to RSVP by calling our box office at 334.868.1440.

The Wetumpka Depot Players meet needs in the community by working to fulfill their mission of entertaining, educating and reaching out to our community. The 2014 season just kicked off with an outstanding production of The Miracle Worker. The remainder of the season includes, Boeing Boeing (a hilarious farce), The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (a large cast country musical), A Higher Place in Heaven (a heartwarming prequel to audience favorite, Second Samuel) and summer youth programs. The theatre is located at 300 S Main Street. The Depot website is wetumpkadepot.com, box office number is 334.868.1440 and social media users can find the theatre on Facebook.
