A holiday tradition at McCallum Theatre, Colors of Christmas returns on Friday, December 7, at 8:00pm with a new line-up of stars for a sparkling evening of holiday music and classics backed up by a 12-piece band and a spectacular choir. This year's Colors of Christmas stars Peabo Bryson, Taylor Dayne, Jon Secada and Deniece Williams.

The McCallum Theatre presents Keyboard Conversations® with Jeffrey Siegel on Monday, December 3, at 7:00pm. This evening's program, "Bernstein Birthday Bash," celebrates the 100th birthday of Leonard Bernstein. Featured will be excerpts from West Side Story and Candide, Bernstein's arrangements for piano of Aaron Copland's El Salon Mexico, and the solo piano version of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.

The McCallum Theatre presents Peter Cincotti on Saturday, December 1, at 8:00pm as part of the Fitz's Jazz Cafe at the McCallum series. Born in New York City, Peter Cincotti started tinkling the keys of a toy piano when he was three years old. A year later, he started taking lessons, but his mother asked the teacher to let him play whatever he wanted and to not force classical technique. By the age of nine, he was composing and, in his mid-teens, took up singing. Peter soon became a quadruple threat - pianist, singer, composer and arranger. He spent much of his childhood going to school during the day and playing clubs at night. Legendary music producer Phil Ramone was there one of those nights, a discovery that led Ramone to produce Peter's debut album which reached #1 on the Billboardjazz charts, making 18-year old Cincotti the youngest artist ever to do so.

JFS Desert is proud to present an incredible afternoon with Emmy® Award winning comedy writer and stand-up comic Monica Piper for one performance only. This dynamic comedian who has written for Roseanne, Mad About You, Veronica's Closet and was the head writer of the #1 children's animated series Rugrats will perform her One Woman Show Sunday, November 11 at 3:00 p.m. The American Comedy Awards deemed her one of the top five female comics in America. She has opened for Jerry Seinfeld, Gloria Estefan, Neil Sedaka and The Smothers Brothers. I had the chance to catch up with Ms. Piper as she was preparing to make her way to Palm Springs for her show this weekend. Here are a few excerpts from that interview:

This former Miss North Carolina, standing tall at 6'2", has an infectious personality, heart and sense of humor. With eight nationally released DVDs, three books, hundreds of hours on SiriusXM satellite radio and over 28 million YouTube hits, the demand for Jeanne's family-friendly and engaging brand of comedy has grown exponentially. Some of her most popular anecdotes include 'Don't Go to Vegas Without a Baptist,' 'Don't Bungee Jump Naked,' and 'Don't Send a Man to the Grocery Store.'  The McCallum Theatre welcomes the return of Jeanne Robertson on Friday, November 30, at 8:00pm.

Award-winning Dezart Performs opens it's eleventh season in the desert with the 'serious comedy' CHURCH AND STATE on November 9 at The Pearl McManus Theatre in donwtown Palm Springs. Production notes state: 'Three days before his bid for reelection, a Republican U.S. senator makes an off-the-cuff comment to a blogger that gets leaked on 'the Twitter,' calling into question the senator's stance on guns and God. As his devoutly Christian wife and liberal Jewish campaign manager try to contain the damage, this look at how religion influences politics and how politics has become a religion is simultaneously funny, heartbreaking, and uplifting.' I had the opportunity to catch up with Artistic Director, Michael Shaw, to talk about this production and all things 'Dezart'. Here are some excerpts from that conversation:

Theatre 29's wildly successful Improvisational troupe, THE BAKERS DOZEN, will be onstage again at 7:00 pm Saturday November 10, with a Thanksgiving themed special show.  Production snotes state: 'THE BAKERS DOZEN will offer a Tryptophan fueled improvisational smorgasbord when they get back at the table ready to stuff your face...with comedy! Theatre 29 proudly announces primary casting for the finale production of the 2018 theatrical season, "Annie". Helmed by the team of multi award-winning Artistic & Musical Director Kathryn Ferguson and Choreographers Scott Clinkscales & Lisa Goldberg, the world's most famous musical will play weekends beginning November 23 through December 16th at the Theatre at 73637 Sullivan Road in Twentynine Palms.

The McCallum Theatre presents Ukelele Wizard Jake Shimabukuro on Tuesday, November 27, at 8:00pm. Jake Shimabukuro has not only redefined what his instrument can do, but has spread the ukulele's popularity to a new audience. His star began to rise in 2006 with a viral YouTube performance of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" (over 14 million views). Called "the Paganini of the ukulele," he's been declared a "musical hero" by Rolling Stone and earned comparisons to music icons Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis. Jake Shimabukuro is known for his masterful interpretations of songs by Sting, Leonard Cohen, George Harrison, Adele, Queen and many others.

Debby Holiday, one of the most prolific dance artists of our time and Billboard® Dance Chart Topper will showcase her new single 'Waiting for a Lifetime' along with her 4-piece band known for her mega hits 'DIVE', 'I LIKE YOU', 'BRING IT ON', 'PIECE OF MY LOVE' and 'SURRENDER.' Ms. Holidaywill headline Halloween Palm Springs onWednesday, October 31 from 5:00-10:00p.m.  Bringing the beat to the street will be internationally re-known Phil B. who is undoubtedly one of the top DJ's on the U.S. and Europe Circuit today and was recently honored with DJ of the Year at the 10th Annual Just Circuit Awards! 

 The most popular group in the history of the McCallum Theatre (30 sold-out shows and counting!) returns for six spectacular shows, Tuesday, November 20, through Sunday, November 25. Whether this is your first time or thirty-first, The TEN Tenors will dazzle you with their vocal prowess and delight you with their choreography and Australian humor. They will be performing new songs and classics, and some Holiday music, too.  Don't miss the "Vocal Thunder from Down Under!"

The City of Rancho Mirage and the McCallum Theatre present Best of Doo Wop - Volume II on Sunday, November 18, at 3:00pm. This year's Doo Wop lineup features Danny & The Juniors, Remember When: A Tribute to the Platters, Johnny Tillotson, The Safaris, The Alley Cats, Comedy Host John Wing and The American Gold Band.

California Desert Chorale's Friends in Song concert on Sunday, October 28 at 3:00 p.m, to feature Chorale members, interns and special guests in a stylistically varied program of vocal music featuring a rich variety of beautiful singing and marvelous performance. California Desert Chorale's Fall Friends In Song recital promises to be an entertaining program with terrific singers presenting a wide array of jazz standards (At Last, Perfidia & Cry Me A River), Broadway hits (Beauty and the Beast, The Bridges of Madison County, Nine & Dear Evan Hansen) and opera (Le Nozze di Figaro, Gianni Schicchi, Les Contes de Hoffman & Giulio Cesare). 

With Halloween just around the corner, Theatre 29's presents the camp, cult classic musical Carrie. based on the Stephen King novel and the 1976 Brian DePalma film as well as various theatrical incarnations. Production Notes State: 'Director Charles Harvey revels in the almost surrealistic edge and humor of this piece which enthrallingly envelops this unique theatrical experience. This is a "Carrie" with an emphasis is on very real human interaction and emotions -especially as reflected in the themes of peer pressure, isolation, conformity, and the anguish of being an outsider.'

The Writers Studio at the Coachella Valley Repertory Conservatory will present a first-of-its-kind event in December 2018. 'The Desert of Love,' a new full-length play by Studio member Bruce Bonafede, will be presented as a public staged reading on Saturday, December 15. The reading will be mounted on the CVRep main stage and marks the first time the group has presented a reading of a full-length play by one of its members.

 In a haze of reality and misguided fantasy, four characters present the critically acclaimed play Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? on the Palm Canyon Theatre stage October 18-21. First staged in 1962, writer Edward Albee promptly won the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Play (1962-63) and the Tony Award for Best Play (1963). The play happens over the course of one night and includes games of marital torment and verbal tirades with hints of infidelity and deception sprinkled throughout an unconventional encounter.

The McCallum Theatre presents Bob Newhart on Saturday, November 17, at 8:00 pm. One of the most important, influential, and beloved figures in the history of American comedy, Chicago native Bob Newhart has been entertaining audiences around the world for over 50 years. Bob has enjoyed success in television and films as well and hosted the "Tonight Show" an astonishing 87 times. His early TV effort, the "Bob Newhart Variety Show," earned an Emmy Award and a Peabody Award and was followed by the television success of "The Bob Newhart Show" (1972-1978) and "Newhart" (1982-1990). He has appeared in over 14 feature films, including Elf, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, Catch 22 and Legally Blonde 2, and has starred with the likes of Steve McQueen, Bobby Darin, Barbara Streisand, Madeline Kahn and Walter Matthau. He's also provided character voices for major animated films.

The International Opera Institute presents a celebration of Streisand and Sinatra in 'The Concert That Never Was' At The Indian Wells Performing Arts Center on November 10 at 7:30 pm. 'The Concert That Never Was' is a concert between Frank Sinatra and Barbra Streisand that was planned but never took place. This stellar evening will be performed by Opera and Jazz Diva Rose Kingsley, Actor and Entertainer Richard Shelton and The Bob Corwin Trio. I had the chance to catch up with Ms. Kingsley to talk about her storied career and the upcoming Streisand/Sinatra Concert. Here are a few excerpts from that interview:
