The McCallum Theatre presents Keyboard Conversations® with Jeffrey Siegel on Monday, February 11, at 7:00pm. This evening's program, "Chopin in Paris", features Waltz in A-flat Major, Op. 34, No. 1; Impromptu in A-flat Major, Op. 29; three Mazurkas; Polonaise in F-Sharp Major, Op. 44; Tarantella, Op. 43, in A-flat Major; Etude, Op. 10, No. 3 in E Major; and Polonaise in A-flat Major, Op. 53.

The McCallum Theatre presents the 20th Anniversary Tour of Rent for five performances, Friday, February 8, through Sunday, February 10. In 1996, an original rock musical by a little-known composer opened on Broadway and forever changed the landscape of American theatre. Two decades later, Jonathan Larson's Rent continues to speak loudly and defiantly to audiences across generations and all over the world. And now, this Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award®-winning masterpiece returns to the stage in a vibrant 20th anniversary touring production. A re-imagining of Puccini's La Boheme, Rent follows an unforgettable year in the lives of seven artists struggling to follow their dreams without selling out. The McCallum Theatre presents Ben and Noel Haggard in "Tribute to Merle Haggard" today, January 22, at 8:00pm. The Haggard legacy lives on as Merle's sons, Ben and Noel Haggard, pay tribute to their father and play some of their own songs, too. 

The Palm Canyon Theatre (PCT) will become a pantomime of hustle and bustle as the regional repertory company presents Guys and Dolls January 18-February 10. Set in New York City in the 1940s, Guys and Dolls is about some big city gamblers and the women who love them. The Tony award winner for Best Musical tells the overlapping stories of the lovable rapscallion, Nathan Detroit (Paul Grant), engaged for 14 years to Miss Adelaide (Se Layne), a headliner at the Hot Box Club and that of high-roller Sky Masterson (Nicholas Sloan), who falls in love with mission worker Sarah Brown (Jamie Leigh Walker).

The McCallum Theatre presents the Russian National Ballet in a full-length performance in four acts of Swan Lake on Tuesday, February 5, at 8:00pm. Presented by a vibrant company dedicated to the timeless tradition of classical Russian ballet,Swan Lake tells the story of a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer's curse. The Russian National Ballet brings the world's most beloved ballet gloriously to life with Tchaikovsky's classic score. Swan Lake premiered in 1877 at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.

The greatest family musical of all time, The Wizard of Oz, travels over the rainbow to Palm Desert for five performances at the McCallum Theatre. Performances are Friday, January 25, at 8:00pm; Saturday, January 26, at 2:00pm and 8:00pm, and Sunday, January 27, at 2:00pm and 7:30pm. This magical production is a celebration of the 1939 MGM movie, and will be presented with breathtaking special effects that will sweep audiences away, from the moment the tornado twists its way into Kansas. Nick Pearson plays the Cowardly Lion in this iteration. I had the chance to chat with Nick about all things 'Oz' and his personal trajectory that led him over the rainbow. Here are a few excerpts from that conversation:

The McCallum Theatre presents Paul Anka and "Anka Sings Sinatra" for two performances. The Thursday, January 31, performance at 8:00pm is presented through the generosity of Paul and Carol Hill. The Friday, February 1, performance at 8:00pm is presented through the generosity of Henry and Carol Levy and Ron and Aviva Snow. A note from Paul: "The Anka Sings Sinatra tour will honor a great artist who has influenced me more than anyone else throughout my career, Frank Sinatra. It will also feature the hits that have spanned my career on this 60th anniversary year. It will be a night filled with his songs, my songs, my way!"

World renowned impresario Danny Chang and choreographer Angela Chang combine award-winning acrobatics, traditional dance, spectacular costumes, ancient and contemporary music and theatrical techniques to present a show of breathtaking skill and spellbinding beauty.

The McCallum Theatre presents Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo on Tuesday, January 29, at 8:00pm. Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo was founded in 1974 by a group of ballet enthusiasts for the purpose of presenting a playful, entertaining view of traditional, classical ballet in parody form and en travesti, Les Ballets Trockadero first performed in the late-late shows in Off-Off Broadway lofts. The Trocks, as they are affectionately known, quickly garnered a major critical essay by Arlene Croce in The New Yorker, which combined with reviews in The New York Timesand The Village Voice, established the company as an artistic and popular success. By mid-1975, the Trocks' loving knowledge of dance, comic approach, and commitment to the notion that men can, indeed, dance en pointe without falling flat on their faces, was already garnering attention beyond the company's New York home. Articles and notices in publications such asVariety, Oui, The London Daily Telegraph, as well as a Richard Avedon photo essay in Vogue, made the company nationally and internationally known.

Desert Ensemble Theatre Company's (DETC)'s Eighth Season continues from February 8-10 and 15-17, 2019 with the world premiere of For a Reason by award-winning playwright-in-Residence Tony Padilla. For A Reason will be presented Friday-Sunday, February 8-10 and 15-17; Fridays and Saturdays at 7pm and Sundays at 2pm. Padilla's latest work is a comedy about the reasons that people come into our lives and, in the playwright's words "how casual encounters can lead to positive life changes."

Throughout her illustrious career, Tony Award-winning actress Bernadette Peters has dazzled audiences and critics with her performances on stage and television, in concert, and on recordings. The McCallum Theatre presents Bernadette Peters, with Marvin Laird, Musical Director, on Thursday, January 24, at 8:00pm.

Producer, composer, keyboardist and vocalist, Sergio Mendes is one of the most internationally successful Brazilian artists of all time. His hit single 'Mas Que Nada' is the first Portuguese language song to ever hit Billboard's U.S. Pop chart and Mendes' signature mix of bossa nova and samba and distinctive pop instrumentation have ultimately come to define Brazilian music.The McCallum Theatre and Jim "FITZ" Fitzgerald co-present Sergio Mendes on Wednesday, January 23, at 8:00pm as part of the Fitz's Jazz Cafe at the McCallum series.

The Coachella Valley Symphony will continue it's 26th Annual Season by performing 'The Best of Stage and Screen' with guest artists from The McCallum Theatre's Open Call including: Javier Traviso, Cecelia Stewart and Sarah Hagar-Cox. This engaging and spectacular concert will feature favorites from the stage and screen and will be held at the Palm Springs Art Museum Annenberg Theater.

National Geographic Live, National Geographic's touring speaker series, and the McCallum Theatre are proud to announce "Exploring Mars" with Kobie Boykins, an engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, on Monday, January 21, at 7:00pm. NASA mechanical engineer Kobie Boykins is intimately involved with the planet Mars. As supervisor of the mobility and remote sensing teams for the rover Curiosity, Boykins has monitored headline-making studies, including proof of the former presence of water on Mars indicating that the red planet could have supported life. Join Boykins, winner of a NASA Exceptional Service Medal, as he shares his boundless enthusiasm for unraveling the mysteries of outer space and recounts the latest exciting chapter of Mars exploration.

The McCallum Theatre announces the return engagement for Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award winning hit musical JERSEY BOYS for eight performances, January 15 through January 20.  Opening night performance on Tuesday, January 15 is presented through the generosity of Jerry and Sarah Mathews. JERSEY BOYS is the behind-the-music story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. They were just four guys from Jersey, until they sang their very first note. They had a sound nobody had ever heard, and the radio just couldn't get enough. But while their harmonies were perfect on stage, off stage it was a very different story, a story that has made them an international sensation all over again. The show features all their hits including "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Oh What a Night," "Walk Like a Man," "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" and "Working My Way Back to You."
