artnet Auctions is proud to present Natural Selection: Contemporary Asian Art, a live auction of over 60 works in all media that explore various themes and images from nature. From the subversive to the sublime, images from nature play a major role in the work of many established and emerging Asian artists. Works in the sale have estimates ranging from US$1,500 to 50,000.

The Contemporary Chinese Art in this sale is led by a number of exceptional works, most notably Untitled (2004) by Feng Zhengjie (Chinese, b.1968). This important Neo-Pop oil painting of a woman whose hair has been replaced by soft pink roses is estimated at US$45,000 to 55,000. Another highlight of the sale is Lakeside, a large-scale Realist oil painting by Chinese female Contemporary artist He Hongbei (Chinese, b.1969). The artist depicts a tranquil yet surreal scene of a young woman, who is wearing deer antlers and surrounded by lush flowers, daydreaming against a scholar's rock at a river's edge. Paintings, photographs, and prints by Chen Hongzhi, Fang Lijun, Lin Tianmiao, Yue Minjun, Walasse Ting, Wang Qingsong, Zao Wou-Ki, Zeng Fanzhi, and Zhang Huan are also among the exciting Chinese works.

The Japanese Art portion of the sale includes several important photographs and silkscreen works on canvas by Daido Moriyama (Japanese, b.1938), one of the most significant Contemporary Japanese artists working today. Most notable is his iconic and hauntingly beautiful Miwasa (Stray Dog) (c.1971), a large-scale silkscreen on canvas. Estimated at US$25,000 to 35,000, this is edition four of five and is the last edition available to the public. A dynamic range of photographs by Nobuyoshi Araki (Japanese, b.1940) are also featured in the sale, showing the varied ways that the artist incorporates nature into his oeuvre. The auction also includes work by other notable Contemporary Japanese artists, including Chiho Aoshima, Minol Araki, Maki Hosokawa, Ai Kijima, Yayoi Kusama, Hiroshi Sugimoto, and Takashi Murakami.

Refreshing selections of emerging Korean works are featured in the sale as well. Of note is the visually-meditative color photograph Tree of Life (Yellow) (2009) by Lee Joeng Lok (Korean, b.1971), estimated at US$5,000 to 7000, and from an edition of six. Works by Sohyun Bae, Kim Jongsook, Koo Seongyoun, and JeongMee Yoon round out the sale.

Natural Selection: Contemporary Asian Art will be live on artnet Auctions from May 22 through June 3 2013, and on view here.
