UWM's Inova Director Sara Krajewski Wins Fellowship from Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts

The UW-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts has announced that Sara Krajewski, director of the Institute of Visual Arts (Inova), has been awarded one of only two curatorial fellowships from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, which recently awarded grants to 42 organizations in 20 states totaling more than $3.6 million.

The curatorial fellowship supports travel and research toward the development of an exhibition investigating the evolution of interdisciplinary practices in contemporary art. Krajewski will look closely at artists who seamlessly assimilate the theory and craft of performing arts and visual arts. Such artists disregard medium specificity, erase boundaries between studio, gallery and stage, and occupy a gray area outside of conventional genre distinctions. The results are super-hybrid, time-based, audio-visual-physical experiences that take place in "performed environments" where action and interplay generate unusual relationships between artist, audience, image, object and venue. Krajewski will travel nationally and internationally to research artists, visit art and performance festivals, and meet with curatorial and academic colleagues.
