Now in its fourth edition, New Tang Dynasty (NTD) Television's Global Han Couture Design Competition features original designs that reference the apparel styles of China's Tang, Song and Ming dynasties. Through a selective use of materials, color, accessories and techniques, the designs will allow modern people to appreciate the aesthetics and practicality embedded in ancient Chinese couture.

About Hanfu

China is comprised of many different ethnicities, but the Han culture has been the most prevalent since ancient times. Hanfu, or Han Couture, refers to the clothing worn by the Han from the time of the ancient Yellow Emperor to the end of the Ming Dynasty (2697 B.C. A.D. 1644).

The defining characteristics of Hanfu are its unique collars and lapels; wide, flowing sleeves; and the use of a sash in place of buttons. Its look is refined, reserved, and noble.
