As BroadwayWorld reported in August, a homeless shelter specifically for LGBT youth will open on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, in honor of Bea Arthur, a staunch supporter of the LGBT community. In a feature for the Hollywood Reporter, Matthew Saks, Arthur's older son, discusses his mom's legacy within the LGBT community and the impact she had during the AIDS crisis, choosing to remain devoted to a group of people who were being increasingly pushed into the margins by the majority of society.  (more...)

Loyal followers of the hit #Ham4Ham show will recall that Weird Al Yankovic was featured on a digital episode of the popular pre-show performances that Lin-Manuel unwittingly began on the afternoon of Hamilton's first Broadway lottery. Last night, Weird Al returned the favor, inviting Miranda to join him on stage to sing 'Yoda' at a concert in Chicago, where Miranda is currently in rehearsals for the Chicago production of Hamilton. Portland Center Stage at The Armory's 2016-2017 season kicks off with the hilarious and rockin' sci-fi musical, Little Shop of Horrors, based on the film by Roger Corman, with book and lyrics by Howard Ashman and music by Alan Menken. The demonic plant opened on September 16; and performances run through October 16. Bill Fennelly directs a cast featuring Nick Cearley, Gina Milo, Jamison Stern, Chaz Rose, David Meyers, Ebony Blake, Johari Nandi and Alexis Tidwell. Tragedy struck the Mogador Theater in Paris when the building caught fire last night, resulting in the injury of a fireman battling the blaze. The theater is currently home to the upcoming 30th Anniversary Production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's international juggernaut, Phantom of the Opera. Although the fire has since been controlled, a spokesperson for the theater said that it was impossible to estimate how long repairs would take. Following her Tony-winning performance in the 2014 Broadway production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch as Yitzhak, Lena Hall is pulling a different wig out of the box and hitting the road as the title character for some cities along the production's national tour. National voter registration for voters from all 50 states will be conducted by members of the cast of the Broadway musical HAMILTON on Wednesday, September 28 and again on Saturday, October 1 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre (226 W. 46 St. NYC), where HAMILTON performs.
