The Catholic Archdiocese of New York's new downtown cultural initiative, The Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Center for Thought and Culture, will present Canciones Mexicanas, the second installment of Latin America Sings!, a series of concerts curated by pianist and conductor Pablo Zinger. This Mexican program is presented in celebration of the Virgin of Guadalupe.

The concert will feature vocalists Brenda Feliciano (Puerto Rico), Gizelxanath (Mexico) Virginia Herrera (Mexico) and Maribel Salazar (Mexico) accompanied by Pablo Zinger (Uruguay) at the piano and presenting, and Leonardo Granados (Venezuela) on percussion.

These four distinguished Award winning divas are well known to New York and Mexican audiences for their operatically trained voices and their understanding of the Mexican popular repertoire.

The program will include a sampling of some of the best music from Mexico, from rancheras and huapangos typical of mariachi bands, to concert songs by Manuel M. Ponce - Estrellita, Lejos de ti - and Ignacio Fernández Esperón (Tata Nacho) - La borrachita, Íntima - the varied rhythms of the great Agustín Lara - Granada, Noche de ronda - the romantic songs of the great Armando Manzanero - Somos novios/It's Impossible, Esta tarde vi llover/Yesterday I heard the rain, Adoro - as well as songs of national pride, a tribute to the Virgin of Guadalupe - A ti, virgencita, and much more.

Tickets can be acquired by visiting the Sheen Centers website: sheencenter.org or by calling Box Office at (212) 925-2812. General admission: $29.
