THE MEN MIDDLE BIT is the raucous second movement of an epic three-part operetta titled BEFORE YOU GET TOO FAR AFIELD. A broken play for a broken world, the piece captures the past century in a day, incorporating waahr, factories, men disappearing and deforming, people being mostly insects who are crushable and the working man being just as competent to die as anybody else. Drawing on the language and feeling of the Futurist manifestos, documents that called for a new aesthetic language grounded in speed, noise, machines, violence, war and a rejection of the past, the events of the play move forward and backward through time; the language is highly dense, soothing, and monstrous; the songs razzle the senses and three actresses play a trio of men caught in the sound of the tea kettle whistle and battle cry. The collecting sensation is a mix of unrelenting irrationality, joyful absurdity and teetering chaos.

THE MEN MIDDLE BIT was written and directed by Cara Scarmack; Music Direction by Priscilla Holbrook; Lighting Design by Christopher Weston; Masks and Suits by aricoco; Performance by Priscilla Holbrook, Katie Proulx and Cassandra Weston.
