This week there will be two lab presentations in New York City of the new musical, BEHIND THE PAINTING, with book and lyrics by Tony Award-winner Richard Maltby, Jr., music by two-time Tony nominee David Shire, adapted from the Thai musical of the same title, based on the novel by Sriburapha.

With a cast lead by Sierra Boggess (The Little Mermaid), Ruthie Ann Miles (Here Lies Love), Thom Sesma (Miss Saigon - Signature DC) and introducing Bie Sukrit as "Noppon," the presentation is directed by Tak Viravan, with choreography by Dan Knechtges.

BEHIND THE PAINTING is an epic love story, set in Bangkok and Tokyo between 1933 and 1939. A young Thai student falls in love with the American wife of a Thai diplomat, and the story of their forbidden love parallels history as the new democracy of Siam moves into the vortex of the increasingly anti-American Japan. With a gloriously romantic score, BEHIND THE PAINTING is a modern love story of timeless scale.

Other cast members include Aaron Albano, Ali Ewoldt, Rona Figueroa, Katie Lee Hill, Emily Hsu, Raymond Lee, Koh Machizuki, Colin Miyamoto, Paul Nakauchi, Manna Nichols, Autumn Ogawa, Catherine Ricafort, Vincent Rodriguez III, Andrew Sakaguchi, Scott Watanabe and John Yi.

BEHIND THE PAINTING is produced by Scenario Co., Ltd. and Jack M. Dalgleish.
