The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF), the not-for-profit foundation of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), launches its 2010-2011 ONE-ON-ONE CONVERSATION series - six moderated discussions and Q&As featuring leading directors and choreographers on the topic of Artistic Leadership - on Sunday, November 14 at 1:00pm at the Atlantic Theatre Studio 4 (76 9th Avenue) with Obie Award-winning director Anne Kauffman (THE THUGS) and
Jonathan Moscone, Artistic Director of California Shakespeare Theatre. SDC Executive Director Laura Penn will moderate.

The ONE-ON-ONE CONVERSATION series with prominent theatre directors and choreographers will explore the topic of Artistic Leadership, delving into subjects such as balancing an artistic career while leading an organization, influencing leadership within the field outside of the institutional setting, developing supportive relationships among artists to further the industry, and finding opportunity for practicing artists to shape the arts landscape and maintain the artists' presence.

New York-based freelance director Anne Kauffman was the 2010 recipient of the Alan Schneider Director Award given by TCG to identify an exceptional director. Ms. Kauffman's work on Adam Bock's THE THUGS at Soho Rep. garnered her an Obie Award for Direction. Her credits
include Becky Shaw at Wilma Theatre, WE HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN A CASTLE, GOD'S EAR, STUNNING, TYPOGRAPHER'S DREAM, THIS WIDE NIGHT and THE LADIES.

Jonathan Moscone was recently awarded SDCF's inaugural Zelda Fichandler Award recognizing an outstanding director or choreographer who is transforming the arts landscape of his or her region through singular creativity and artistry in theatre. Mr. Moscone is currently in his ninth season as Artistic Director of California Shakespeare Theater where his credits include MAN AND SUPERMAN, AS YOU LIKE IT, HAMLET, BLOOD IN THE BRAIN, THE LIFE AND ADVENTURES OF NICHOLAS NICKLEBY, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, JULIUS CAESAR, THE SEAGULL, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, TWELFTH NIGHT and ROSENCRANTZ & GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD.

SDCF's second conversation in the series will be held in Los Angeles on December 6. Guests will include Michael John Garces, Artistic Director of Cornerstone Theater Company, and Lonny Price, discussing the capture of live theatre for broadcast and the influence of the stage director on the process. Future conversations will feature Tony Taccone, Artistic Director of Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and Rob Ashford, among others.

Each ONE-ON-ONE CONVERSATION will be audiotaped for future podcast in "SDCF's Masters of the Stage," a collaboration with AmericanTheatreWing.org.

Founded in 1965 by Members of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF) is the nation's premier organization that exists to foster, train, support and promote the craft of theatre Directors and Choreographers. SDFC aims to provide opportunities to practice the crafts of direction and choreography; promote emerging talent; grant access to career paths for emerging artists and young professionals; gather and disseminate craft and career information; provide forums for exchange of knowledge; and increase the awareness of the value of Directors' and Choreographers' work.

Tickets for the ONE-ON-ONE CONVERSATION with Anne Kauffman and Jonathan Moscone on Sunday, November 14 at 1:00pm at the Atlantic Theatre Studio 4 (76 9th Avenue) are $10 at the door; $5 for SDC Members and Associate Members.
