Klaus Biesenbach, Director of MoMA PS1 and Chief Curator at Large at The Museum of Modern Art, announced today that Peter Eleey has been named Curator and Associate Director of Exhibitions and Programs at MoMA PS1. In this role, Eleey will continue to serve as the museum's lead curator, while also working closely with Mr. Biesenbach to expand the institution's exhibitions and programs and to build its overall capacity in partnership with colleagues at The Museum of Modern Art.

"Over the past three years, Peter has been a close collaborator in charting a new direction for MoMA PS1, and instrumental in furthering the relationship between MoMA PS1 and The Museum of Modern Art. In addition to the many significant contributions he has made as a curator, his organizational and strategic leadership has been invaluable to the museum during this period of growth, as we have expanded our staff, facilities and programs," states Mr. Biesenbach.

Since joining MoMA PS1 in July 2010, Eleey has organized 16 exhibitions at the museum, including premiere presentations of Ed Atkins, Matt Connors, Darren Bader, Esther Kläs, and Metahaven, as well as acclaimed surveys of Huma Bhabha, Lara Favaretto, George Kuchar, Thomas Lanigan-Schmidt and Henry Taylor (with MoMA curator Laura Hoptman). He also curated September 11, a group exhibition organized on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks in 2011. His upcoming projects include surveys of James Lee Byars (with Magali Arriola) and Maria Lassnig, as well as a retrospective of Sturtevant that will open at The Museum of Modern Art in late 2014. With Connie Butler, Eleey is presently overseeing MoMA PS1's expanded presentation of Mike Kelley, the retrospective of the artist's work organized by the Stedelijk Museum last year and curated by Ann Goldstein. Opening on October 13, Mike Kelley will fill the museum's entire building, and will be the largest solo show in MoMA PS1's history.

From 2007 through 2010, Eleey was Visual Arts Curator at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, where he organized exhibitions with Trisha Brown and Goshka Macuga, along with the group shows The Quick and the Dead and The Talent Show. Before joining the Walker, he was a curator and producer at Creative Time.
