Onyx Theatre Does Christmas Three Ways This Winter

Less than year after news reports had the Onyx facing an uncertain end, the scrappy theatre on Sahara is excited to announce not one, but three different productions for the holiday season!

Opening first will be their first foray into Theatre for Young Audiences. "My background is actually in theatre education," says Producing Director Troy Heard. "So it was only a matter of time before we started creating children's theatre. It'll still have the offbeat Onyx stamp, but unlike our regular programming it will be totally family friendly."

Elf U.: A Crash Course in Christmas is an original show that puts the entire audience in the first day of Elf Training as experts Mrs. Claus and Mary Christmas guide them through all the things you wanted to know about the holiday season, and some fun facts you'd never know. Successful participants will even graduate with an Elf U. diploma! Elf U. is recommended for ages five and above.

Second in line is the Onyx After Hours production of Jeff Goode's totally twisted dark comedy The Eight: Reindeer Monologues. Something terrible went down in the North Pole, and accusations are flying. Santa crossed the line...Rudolph's in an insane asylum...and now the flying elite, The Eight, have come forward to tell their versions of what happened. The Eight is recommended for adult audiences.

Opening later in the month, The Blanche DeBris Emergency Xmas Broadcast welcomes the popular burlesque queen to the Onyx stage! In the tradition of TV holiday specials of seasons past, The Blanche DeBris Emergency Xmas Broadcast finds Ms. DeBris trying to save the radio station, KNYT, from falling into the hands of a mustache-twirling land developer. By using the powers of cheer, good will, and D-list celebrity guest appearances, she'll save the station and cheer the cockles of your heart. The Blanche DeBris Emergency Xmas Broadcast is rated PG-13.

Performances of The Blanche DeBris Emergency Xmas Broadcast will be December 10 through 19, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday at 8 pm. Tickets are $20 for General Admission.

Performances of The Eight: Reindeer Monologues will be December 4 through 19, Fridays and Saturdays at 10 pm. Tickets are $15 for General Admission.

Performances of Elf U.: A Crash Course in Christmas will be December 4 through 19, Saturdays at 11 am and 1 pm. Tickets are $10 for General Admission.

Tickets for all productions may be purchased online at www.onyxtheatre.com or at the Box Office an hour before show time.
