The fourth season of New York Theatre Barn's Choreography Lab will launch on Monday, February 20, 2016 at The Cell, 338 West 23rd St. in New York City.

Now entering its fourth season, The Choreography Lab is the only curated choreography platform where choreographers and writers collaborate to develop movement for new musicals during incubation.

Physicality and movement are part of human expression. Finding the right movement is crucial to complete communication of untold stories. The physical world of Theatre Barn's chosen stories are explored and wrought over, just as the text of a new work is explored through readings, workshops, and work sessions. The lab was created to introduce and integrate choreography into new work development.

The 2016 lab was funded through a generous gift from the Amber Foundation. The lab is curated by avital Asuleen.

The 2017 lineup includes four installments:

February 20, 2017 / 2pm @ The Cell

4 Choreographers/1 New Musical: Four choreographers explore dance from four different moments of the new musical Days of Rage, a civil rights musical about the Black Panthers and the Weathermen Underground. Currently in development with New York Theatre Barn, Days of Rage is written by Shoshana Greenberg and Hyeyoung Kim.

April 23, 2017 / 2pm @ The Cell

New Works: Four choreographers each create a number from four diverse new musicals. The writers of these shows are often seeing these pieces on their feet for the first time, offering all creative parties an opportunity to truly assess the material.

September 2017 / Details TBA

Open Lab: Four choreographers present their own narrative dance pieces, each with a specific personal choreographic development goal.

November 2017 / Details TBA

New Works II: Four choreographers present a number from four diverse new musicals. The writers of these shows are often seeing these pieces on their feet for the first time, offering all creative parties an opportunity to truly assess the material.
