New World Stages will begin a Holiday Food Collection, benefiting The Food Bank For New York City.

"With over 1500 theatergoers passing through New World Stages every day, the hope is to collect enough food products to make the holidays a little easier for our neighbors in need.  And to encourage patrons to participate, New World Stages will offer a $5 off coupon for any of their shows to anyone bringing in five new, sealed food products for donation," as press notes state.

"At least two million New York City residents are at risk of going hungry. The majority of them are women with children, the elderly, the disabled and the working poor. The Food Bank For New York City is the major provider of food to more than 1,200 community food programs throughout the five boroughs, helping to provide the food for more than a quarter-million free meals served daily to New Yorkers in need. For every $1 donation, 96¢ goes toward food acquisition, distribution and programs.

Beverley D. Mac Keen, New World Stages' Executive Director, explains, "as we continue to expand our mandate, and reach out to our community and our neighbors, we can think of no more pressing need than hunger. If we can make even a small difference in the lives of New Yorkers who are struggling during this season, than we can all enjoy the holidays more."

New World Stages is currently presenting an acclaimed line-up of shows that includes the musicals Evil Dead: The Musical, Mimi le Duck, starring the legendary Eartha Kitt, and How to Save the World and Find True Love in Ninety Minutes. NWS's long-running hits, Altar Boyz and Naked Boys Singing continue in their hit runs, and the former musical just launched its US national tour.   New World Stages also features a Gallery (which recently presented the exhibition "Francesco Scavullo: A Photographic Retrospective"), and the popular Time Out NY Lounge.
