National Book Award winner Julia Glass Comes to WRITER IN THE LOFT, 6/21

The Music Hall welcomes to its Loft stage the National Book Award-winning author Julia Glass with her latest work, A HOUSE AMONG TREES. Known best for her masterful work Three Junes, Glass has orchestrated another richly plotted novel of friendship and love that explores as well the impact of artistic ambition, the perils of celebrity, and the power of an unexpected legacy.

After the sudden death of the celebrated children's author Mort Lear, his trusted assistant is stunned to be left the house and all its contents, as well as the role of literary executor. She must also deal with the arrival of a beguiling British actor who was cast to play Mort in a movie. Together, they look more closely at the deceased author's past and the consequences of his choices.

Julia Glass is the author of five previous books of fiction, including the bestselling Three Junes, winner of the National Book Award, and I See You Everywhere, winner of the Binghamton University John Gardner Fiction Book Award. Other published works include the Kindle Single Chairs in the Rafters and essays in several anthologies. A recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, and the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Glass is a Distinguished Writer in Residence at Emerson College. She lives with her family in Marblehead, Massachusetts.

Akin to The Music Hall's anchor literary series, Writers on a New England Stage, Writers in the Loft features bestselling authors in a smaller, more intimate space. The series brings audiences today's top authors, the best of fiction and nonfiction, and award-winners across categories. The evening package includes a reserved seat and bar beverage, author presentation and Q+A, a copy of the book, and a meet-and-greet book signing with the featured writer.

The Music Hall Book Club is a benefit for members at our Contributor level and above. This club meets the second Monday of the month in the lounge at Portwalk Place in downtown Portsmouth from 6-7:30pm. Our discussions begin with socializing followed by a moderated discussion. Our fantastic moderator comes prepared but encourages the conversation to go in any direction the group prefers.
