Miro Magloire opens the 2016-17 season of his New Chamber Ballet with two world premieres: Tanz Tanz, set to music by contemporary Germany composer Reiko Fueting, and a new work to a commissioned score by Michel Galante. The program will be completed by Miro works to music by Giuseppe Tartini and Ravel, September 16 & 17, 8 PM, in City Center Studio 5, 130 West 56 Street.

Celebrated for his musical sophistication and use of music by young or rarely heard composers, Magloire's musical choices run from Tartini to Debussy to Cage. One of this season's premieres, Tanz Tanz, is set to music by Reiko Fueting, composed for solo violin as an homage to Bach's famous Chaconne. The composer trained at schools in his homeland of Germany as well as South Korea and Rice University in Houston Texas. Recipient of many prizes, awards, scholarships and grants in both Europe and the U.S., Fueting has also taught composition and music theory at schools around the world, including the Manhattan School of Music, where he has been on the faculty since 2000. Tanz Tanzwas originally commissioned by the Columbia Ballet Collaborative, where it premiered in 2014. For his own company, Magloire presents a new version for two dancers.

For the program's second premiere Magloire will collaborate for a third time with composer Michel Galante, again made possible by a grant from the O'Donnell-Green Music and Dance Foundation. Composer/conductor Galante is director of the Argento New Music Project, and guest conducts orchestras around the world. His future conducting engagements include the St. Petersburg Chamber Philarmonic (Russia) and the Orchestra Nazionale Artes (Italy).

The program will also see a repeat of Djazz, set to Ravel's Sonata for violin and piano No. 2, and commissioned by Leslie and Richard Curtis. Melanie Brown, writing for Stage Buddy, found that "A trio of dancers...unleashed athletic choreography that lined up perfectly with Ravel's score." (June 23, 2016)

The trio Silk, premiered in 2006, is set to the Sonata VII for solo violin by Giuseppe Tartini, which was "gorgeously played by Mr. Na." (Juan Michael Porter II, BroadwayWorld/Dance, June 22, 2016). The writer remarked that "Mr. Magloire is an absolute magician when it comes to trios," and in describing Silk, he wrote: "...a trio of elegant women gave praise to life. They could have been the Three Graces of Greek lore."
