Liza Minnelli Collapses On-Stage During Concert in Sweden

Reuters reports legendary entertainer, Liza Minnelli, collapsed on-stage during a performance in Sweden on Wednesday, December 12.

Witnesses say Minnelli "was taken to hospital before being discharged on Thursday…Minnelli collapsed during a Christmas show Wednesday night and fell off the side of the stage but was caught by a technician and escaped additional injuries."

Minnelli was discharged from the hospital Thursday morning and flown back to the United States. There are no details or information on her condition.  The cause of the collapse is unknown. 

Minnelli was scheduled to perform in a Christmas concert series with other Swedish performances in Stockholm and Gothenburg.  These concerts have been canceled.

Liza Minnelli, daughter to Judy Garland, is a fixture of American entertainment. She received a Tony Award for her 1965 performance in Flora the Red Menace. Teamed with legend choreographer, Bob Fosse, Minnelli won the 1972 Academy Award for her performance in the role of Sally Bowles in Cabaret.  After the success of the movie, Fosse and Minnelli created her hit solo-concert "Liza with a Z," for which she won the 1972 Emmy Award.  Minnelli's other screen credits include New York New York and A Matter of Time.  She appeared as a sub for Julie Andrews in the 1996 Broadway musical Victor/Victoria. Minnelli earned her first Academy Award nomination for her performance in The Sterile Cuckoo. She won a special Tony in 1974 for her concert engagement at NY's Winter Garden, and a second Tony Award for The Act in 1978. She was nominated for another Tony Award in 1984 for The Rink but lost to her costar, Chita Rivera.
