Symphony Space and WYNC's  long running radio series, SELECTED SHORTS, is pleased to announce that  nationally acclaimed author and editor, Hannah Tinti, will join the show as Literary Commentator beginning the week of January 15th (contact your local public radio station for specific broadcast dates and times).

After 29 years of being the sole voice of SELECTED SHORTS, host Isaiah Sheffer is thrilled to welcome to the studio a "literary fellow traveler."  Tinti is well known in literary circles as an author and editor.  She developed her editorial skills working at literary agencies and magazines, including The Atlantic Monthly, Boston Review and Washington Square. Recently she won the 2009 PEN/Nora Magid award for her editorial work at One Story, a literary magazine that contains, simply, one story, which she co-founded in 2002.  Her short story collection, Animal Crackers, has sold in sixteen countries and was a runner up for the PEN/Hemingway award. Her novel, The Good Thief, was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year, a recipient of the American Library Association's Alex Award, and winner of the John Sargent Sr. First Novel Prize.

Tinti joins SELECTED SHORTS after being interviewed by host Isaiah Sheffer as a guest on the radio show.  Her story, "Milestones," was read by Laurie Anderson as part of the series.  After that interview, Sheffer realized they had great chemistry and her perspective as a novelist and a short story writer would add a new dimension to the long running show.  "Hannah Tinti is a lot of fun!  She will be a welcome guest commentator on SELECTED SHORTS.  She knows a lot about the current literary scene and is a writer and editor of fiction herself," says Sheffer.  Tinti herself says, "I've been a devoted fan of Selected Shorts since 1994, when I would listen on the hour commute between my job at a bookstore and waiting tables at night. Those stories on the radio were a lifeline to the literary world, and it's hard to believe that I'm now going to be a part of the program. It's such an honor and a thrill."

SELECTED SHORTS is an award-winning, one-hour radio program featuring readings of classic and new short fiction, recorded live at New York's Symphony Space and on tour around the country. Each week on public radio stations nationwide, great actors from stage, screen and television bring short stories to life. One of the most popular series on the airwaves, this unique show is hosted by Isaiah Sheffer and produced for radio by Symphony Space and WNYC New York Public Radio and distributed by PRI.
