Lin-Manuel Miranda introduced rap to Broadway with IN THE HEIGHTS and his score to HAMILTON is a sophisticated blend of showtune, rap, hip hop, jazz, R&B and pop. While Broadway fans may easily catch the references to 1776 and THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE, more contemporary musical moments may fly by them.

The website Genius, billed as "the world's biggest collection of song lyrics and crowdsourced musical knowledge," is well into their project of fully annotating the entire score of Hamilton, inviting readers to help point out the show's multitude of musical and historic references.

Here are five examples of Miranda paying homage to rap artists, as annotated by Genius:

In the opening song, "Alexander Hamilton," Aaron Burr says, "The world is gonna know your name. What's your name, man?" Genius says, "Hamilton is introduced in the same manner as other famous rappers: What's your motherf***in name? This question was asked of Snoop Dog in "Who Am I" and answered by Eminem in "My Name Is."

In "My Shot," Hamilton and company spell out his name with, I am the A-L, E-X, A-N, D-E-R -- we are -- meant to be..." Genius calls that, "A reference to how the Notorious B.I.G. spells his name out in "Going Back to Cali': "It's the N-O, T-O, R-I, O-U-S, you just, lay down, slow..."

In "The Schuyler Sisters," Angelica says, "Burr, you disgust me," and he replies, "Ahh, so you've discussed me." Genius says, "This seems to be a reference to Eminem's "Without Me," which contains the lyric, "Everybody only wants to discuss me, so this must mean I'm disgusting."

In "Right Hand Man" George Washington and company imitate the sounds of war with, "(BOOM) goes the cannon." Genius posts a video of A Tribe Called Quest's "Scenario" with Busta Rhymes using the same line.

Regarding "Ten Duel Commandments," Genius posts a video and notes that Miranda's "title and style pays homage to 'Ten Crack Commandments' by The Notorious B.I.G."
