I'm A Stranger Here Myself opened on March 17 to an eager audience in the Keating Theatre. Original creator and star of the production, Mark Nadler, speaks to the excitement of extending this critically acclaimed production stating, "So far we've had sold out houses. That's very impressive to me.
The audiences here have been so attentive and smart and curious. What a joy to play for these people.
I am positively over the moon that I'm going to have more chances to bring this show to Sarasota audiences."

Critics have raved about I'm A Stranger Here Myself . The New York Times calls it, "Broadly historical and deeply personal." The New York Post calls it "Illuminating." The Wall Street Journal describes it as a "Moving account of the Weimar era."

Artistic Director Richard Hopkins speaks to the extension of this unique production stating, "I'm delighted that I'm A Stranger Here Myself is extending. That's a pretty good vote of confidence from the audience."

With elements that fall in both genres of Cabaret and Mainstage musical, this production was chosen specifically for FST's Stage III program. Hopkins explains this decision further stating, "I included the show in Stage III programming rather than Cabaret for a variety of reasons. First of all, I wanted the show to have a larger platform than our tiny cabaret stages. This particular 'Cabaret show' has a sweep and technical demand that is hard to achieve on FST's cabaret stages. Additionally, this show is not for everyone, and that is what marks our Stage III series: good theatre with a specific audience in mind. This show deals with a narrow slice of history known as the 'Weimar Era' in Germany which was the period in between the two great World Wars. This was an era of artistic renaissance and tremendous, previously unheard of freedoms in Germany. The era was so free that the march of the Nazi's was incomprehensible. It reminds me of the era we enjoy in America today. This is a period of artistic expansion, and greater freedoms than we have ever known in our country. Yet we are surrounded by extremist voices that hate our way of life and seek to destroy it. We revel in our new found freedoms. Will our reveling drown out the march of our enemies?"
