Dance writer Nancy Dalva, creator of the video series "Mondays with Merce," and MacArthur-winning choreographer Elizabeth Streb will speak together at Barnard College on Wednesday, February 29th at 7 p.m. in the Held Auditorium at Barnard Hall. The talk, "How to Get From There to Here," is free and open to the public.  No reservations are needed.

Among the questions that will be raised and subjects discussed are: What makes movement real?  What gives movement meaning?  Formalism versus formality; the calculus of risk and the peril of metaphor.

Trained in ballet, modern dance, mathematics and physics, Streb is known for her laser-speed mind, wit, intellectual depth and for her take-no-prisoners choreography performed by her dance company STREB EXTREME ACTION.  Her innovative use of movement as a vehicle for social, physical and psychological change has also helped define her singular place in the field.
