Disney is at work on another live-action adaptation of a beloved animated film.

According to Deadline, Disney is currently developing a new movie, inspired by PINOCCHIO, with a script by Peter Hedges.

The news comes after the studio's live-action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST has started to take shape, the success of Kenneth Branagh's CINDERELLA, and on the heels of a new edition of MULAN.

Since it opened, CINDERELLA has gone on to gross nearly $150 million. The film was directed by Academy Award® nominee Kenneth Branagh ("Thor," "Hamlet") and starring two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett ("Blue Jasmine," "Elizabeth"), LILY James ("Downton Abbey"), Richard Madden ("Game of Thrones") and Academy Award nominee Helena Bonham Carter ("The King's Speech," "Alice in Wonderland"), "Cinderella" is produced by Simon Kinberg ("X-Men: Days of Future Past," "Elysium"), Allison Shearmur ("The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1") andDavid Barron ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1") with Tim Lewis ("Edge of Tomorrow") serving as executive producer. The screenplay is by Chris Weitz ("About a Boy," "The Golden Compass").

"Pinocchio" was a groundbreaking achievement in the area of effects animation, giving realistic movement to vehicles, machinery and natural elements such as rain, lightning, snow, smoke, shadows and water. The film was released to theaters on February 23, 1940.

"Pinocchio" became the first animated feature to win a competitive Academy Award, winning two for Best Music, Original Score and for Best Music, Original Song for "When You Wish Upon A Star." The beloved ballad became an instantly recognizable cornerstone of Disney's entertainment legacy. In 1994, "Pinocchio" was added to the United States National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
