Dialogue with Three Chords Opens SHIPYARD SOULS & A COMPASS ROSE Tonight

Saints and shepherds; sailors and bartenders; killers and corpses-- the second volume of the season-long Dialogue with Three Chords (D3C) play "Shipyard Souls & A Compass Rose" gets down to some bloody business. The short plays in this performance revisit characters from last month's show, and embark on a cross-country trip with a decidedly unpleasant Christmas present. Written by Stephen Gracia and directed by Michael LoPorto, present the next part of what will form "Shipyard Souls & A Compass Rose," a full-length play, as part of their residency at Mr. Dennehy's on 63 Carmine Street in Greenwich Village at 8pm tonight, September 26. Admission is free, with a $3 suggested donation.

For this second installment of the year-long narrative, Gracia took two steps backward in time to explore people and incidents referenced in last month's short play "That Every Sunken Ship May Rise Again." In this month's "Beneath the Waves, There is a Small House that Holds My Bones" and "Swear & Spit & Cross Yourself" we witness events that shaped two of the main characters from "Sunken": one drunk and bitter, one violent and rapidly sobering up.

"Last month also featured a character named Alex who linked all three plays, by being 'on the nod' in the first, lucid and reflective in the second, and dead on-stage in the last," Gracia explains. "This month's "The Alchemical Uses for Ashes and Candy Canes" finds his mortal remains in a gift-wrapped box, traveling to the Pacific Ocean to finally be put to rest."

Dialogue with Three Chords was founded in 2011 by Stephen Gracia and Michael LoPorto and applies the do-it-yourself philosophy of punk to the stage and features short plays and live music. Their work has also been produced at Sargent Theatre, Makor Theater, DUMBO Theatre Exchange, Levenson Hall at Brooklyn College, and the Theaters at 45 Bleecker.
