Composers Dwyer, Paige, Sotomayor, Carner & Gregor Set for 'In The Works' Series at The Duplex

Honeck-Moss Productions, in conjunction with The Duplex Development Stage will present "In The Works." An exciting new series conceived as an opportunity for composers to try out new work in front of an audience and see how it plays in a supportive environment.

"In The Works" will be presented monthly and feature four composers or composer teams, each presenting new material. The second presentation will be at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre on Sunday, October 23rd 2016 at 9:30 p.m. and will feature the works of composers Patirck Dwyer, Kelly Paige, Andrew David Sotomayor, Sam Carner & Derek Gregor.

The Duplex Cabaret Theater is located at 61 Christopher Street (on 7th Avenue, just off the 1 train). Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door, and there is a two-beverage minimum. Patrick Dwyer received the 2015 Wallowitch Award for songwriting, and is a three-time MAC Award nominee. Productions at The Duplex include Ten Reasons Why I Am Going to Hell, I Can't Wait: The Songs of Patrick Dwyer, and Thirty-Whatever. In addition, The Patrick Dwyer Project was recently presented at the Laurie Beechman Theatre. Other work includes If You Give a Mouse a Cookie (Off-Broadway, national tour), Misguiding Light (Procter & Gamble Productions), and Broadway's Epic Fail (New York Musical Theatre Festival). Patrick is an alum of the NYU Musical Theatre Writing Program, the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop, and the Johnny Mercer Foundation Songwriters Project at Northwestern University.

KELLY PAIGE delivers a level of soul, sass, and substance rarely seen in today's music. Her smart lyrics and catchy hooks will have you singing and dancing long before you realize she's tackling some serious subject matter with her songs. Kelly's voice is reminiscent of the gritty, female powerhouses of the late 60's, but with a sexy, modern approach. She moved to Nashville at 18 where she studied Philosophy and Music Business at Belmont University. At 19 she won her first songwriting competition, held by Belmont and Big Yellow Dog Music Publishing. The following two years she was selected as a finalist in ASCAP's Songwriter Series, and was nominated for Belmont's "Songwriter of the Year" award..

Andrew David Sotomayor As a Composer/Lyricist, his works include providing music and lyrics for the original musicals 50 Shades of F****d Up, Committed, Third Party Ruling, Sarah Crewe, The Guardians, and Requiem for Adrian Bayle, and music for The Circus Animals. He has also provided scores for Bent, and the films Cuba 1961: A Love Story, Timeless, and BX3M. His music has been featured in the concerts #YesAllWomen Raise Your Voice, Broadway's Future Songbook Series, MAC presents They Write the Songs and most recently Musematch 8: Achromatic. Also a composer of sacred music, his Mass Of Fellowship is performed every week at St. Joseph's in Greenwich Village during the Contemporary Masses where he also sings and accompanies. He is the proud recipient of a 2014 MAC Award for his original song The Right Time.

Composing team Sam Carner & Derek Gregor won a John Wallowitch Award for songwriters under 40 and a Richard Rodgers Award for their musical Unlock'd. Sam won the Kleban Prize for "Most Promising Librettist," and they won a 2016 MAC Award for "Best Comedic Song" (with eight of their songs nominated for MAC Awards). Carner & Gregor's musical Unlock'd played an extended Off-Broadway run at the Duke Theater in 2013, having won "Best of the Fest" at NYMF. Their musical Island Song was produced at the Adirondack Theatre Festival in June, having had a workshop production at the Bloomington Playwrights Project and other workshops around the US, as well as concerts at (le) Poisson Rouge in New York, Crawfish in Tokyo (in Japanese!), London's St. James Studio, and the Comedie Nation in Paris. Current projects include Toast, an electro-pop/New Orleans jazz fusion adaptation of Rex Rose's novella, which had a workshop production at the Bloomington Playwrights Project in early 2016; a to-be-announced musical adaptation of an ABC television series; and additional songs for Sheila Levine Is Dead and Living in New York (book by Todd Graff and songs by Michael Devon, direction by Susan Stroman), which had a recent workshop with the Vineyard Theatre.

Thomas Honeck and Lisa Moss were awarded The 2015 MAC Award for Special Production for the show "Dancing with Death" and were given a Bistro Award in 2014 for being an Innovative and Nurturing Creative Team.
