A matinee brunch series featuring live theater and classic film screenings, short story collection GIRLS IN TROUBLE receives an inspired twist for its launch, and a revival of dark comedy ON THE LINE launch the new season at Canal Park Playhouse, NYC's newest performance venue.

New York, New York October 3, 2011-Canal Park Playhouse is the newest exciting addition to the NYC performance community. This intimate venue is located in a landmark building at 508 Canal Street in Tribeca.

The three residential floors of the building was recently transformed into the Canal Park Inn, a beautiful and whimsical bed and breakfast. The ground floor former retail space is now an intimate, state-of-the-art Off Broadway theater. Along with the charming Waffle Iron Café (open only to Canal Park Inn guests and theater-goers for the Matinee Brunch series), the Canal Park Playhouse is a vital addition to Off Broadway performance spaces in Manhattan.

Canal Park Playhouses' November highlights include the first NYC revival of Joe Roland's critically acclaimed play ON THE LINE, the NY premiere of the zany new vaudeville show PERFECT CATCH: A THROWMANTIC COMEDY and the screening of classic short films from THE LITTLE RASCALS (both during their weekend Classic Brunch Matinee series), as well as the book launch for the Grace Paley Prize -winning short story collection GIRLS IN TROUBLE by Douglas Light.

Called "brutally funny" by Newsday when it first premiered in New York, ON THE LINE is a heart-felt, timely and topical comedy about the bonds of friendship being pulled apart by labor, management and the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Those glorious imps return when the Canal Park Playhouse screens three classic shorts from Our Gang, better known as THE LITTLE RASCALS: Waldo's Last Stand, School's Out (with Jackie Cooper) and Our Gang Follies of 1938. Enjoy the exuberant shenanigans of Spanky, Alfalfa, Buckwheat, Darla, Froggie and the rest of the gang screened in the intimate Playhouse theater.

Jimmie James and his innovative group of musicians and actors Playing with Actors bring excerpts of the Grace Paley Prize Award-winning new book GIRLS IN TROUBLE to vibrant life. Jimmie James and his band are interrupted by excerpts from Light's new collection of short stories, performed by actors. An eclectic mix of literature, theater and music, Canal Park Playhouse takes an inspired twist on traditional book launch events.
