America's Got Talent differs from other TV talent shows in that the contestants aren't all singers or dancers. Each individual does what he or she does best and, sometimes, the skills are, indeed, unique.
Now, on stage at the Palazzo Resort Hotel and Casino, you can see some of the top talent from the show and it is an absolute treat that proves, in expert hands, the good ol' variety show is alive, well and vastly entertaining.
Among the entertainers in the cast the evening we saw the show is 14 year-old (the promo material for the show often says she's 11 but she was born in March, 1999) Anna Graceman, who has a powerhouse voice shown to great advantage in a number by Adele and in her own composition, "Lexi's Lullaby." This is a kid we will see and hear for years to come.
The Olate Dogs, who took first place in the show last season, were very cute, obedient and appear to love performing. Oddly, it was a dog act that took first place in the UK version of the show, too. They jumped, pranced, tumbled, rode a bike and did sundry other tricks. They are well-trained and fun to watch.
Magic act Jarrett and Raja combine music on a grand piano with illusion and it's different and fun. They merit a resident show here in Las Vegas.
Joe Castillo does sand painting to musical themes. He did one to
Lee Greenwood's "God Bless The USA" and one to
Elton John's "Circle of Life." His artistry elicited gasps of delight from the audience.
Lightwire Theater combines ballet and electronic art to create beautiful and entertaining images.
Comic
Tom Cotter kept the crowd laughing heartily - not an easy feat with material that is suitable for the entire family. Nothing blue or off-color. Everything was simply funny.
Each act got two turns on stage and it was all interspersed with video from the show in which they were seen performing and talking a bit about themselves..
America's Got Talent at the Palazzo is a wonderful show. The talents dazzle, the variety is interesting and the entire enterprise is a testament to the human imagination and that, I believe, is what gets the audience caught up.
The show is only at the Palazzo through April 14. If you can see it, you should. Imagining how a few of the acts were actually created is wonderful to contemplate and the fact that people did think of them is a marvel that is ours to enjoy. We're lucky to have the show here in Las Vegas. Hope it stays longer.
