Actor William Shatner entered our popular cultural universe when he became Captain James T. Kirk on Star Trek.We then met him as TJ Hooker and Denny Crane in Boston Legal. Along the way he's forged a recording career, been a successful author and - throughout it all - has successfully entertained and amused us.

So, to me, his show Shatner's World: We Just Live In It ... was a natural progression. Performing it at Las Vegas' Smith Center for the Performing Arts (which he called "the most beautiful theater I've ever seen.") he wowed a sold-out crowd.

William Shatner is someone in whom we, as a culture, are interested. The characters who populate his life story are familiar to us. These include Christopher Plummer, whom he understudied in the Stratford (Ontario) Shakespeare Company and Patrick Stewart who, as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, succeeded Kirk as captain of the Starship Enterprise.

Aided by videos and photos,Shatner's World is revealed to us in chronological order. He begins with his Montreal childhood, talks a bit about his family and his education. He discusses being on Broadway in The World of Suzie Wong, his love of horses, Kirk, Denny Crane, the 1999 death of his wife Noreen and, of course, he sings. In fact, he concludes with
