Raymond Alvin's solo show Stealing Home will be presented as the first show of the WorkShop Theater Company's 2005-2006 season.  It will run from September 15th through October 8th at the WorkShop Theater (312 W. 36th Street, on the fourth floor, between 8th and 9th Avenues).

Stealing Home will be directed by Holli Harms.  The show is set in Brooklyn in the summer of 1957, with playwright Alvin portraying 14 separate characters.  "Blistering heat, rumors that the Dodgers are deserting the borough along with a beautiful divorcee who recently moves in are all elements that bring the neighborhood to a slow boil.  Suspicions arise as rumors circulate about the woman's infidelities.  A boy of nine who comes from a turbulent home is befriended by the woman - who turns out to be his next door neighbor.  What really happened on September 21, 1957 and the events leading up to it unfold as told through the boy's eyes and as the man he has now become," according to press notes.

Alvin's other plays include Welcome To Wacker (NJ Repetory),  Applecrest (Lincoln Center,) Settling the Score (WorskShop Theater, Actors Cabaret), It's All In the Thumbs (Double Image), Cruel Moon and Sardines.  He is the author of The NYC Get-A-Grip Gripe Book, and Get-A-Grip New York – Book II (the former being selected as one of the 25 best reference books of the year by the NY Public Library Reference Committee). He wrote and produced numerous episodes of the television show "Streetbeat."

Harms was most recently represented at the WorkShop Theater stage last season with a production of Foreign Affairs by Rich Orloff.   She has directed for Ensemble Studio Theatre, New York Theater Workshop, Word of Mouth, Below the Belt, Polaris and Manhattan Theatre Source.  She has also directed at the DeerTrees Theatre in Maine and for the Footlight Players in Charleston, S.C.

Entering its 12th season, the WorkShop Theater Company specializes in the development of new plays.  The company also nurtures the talents of actors, playwrights and directors with the presentation of readings and workshops as well as fully staged plays, musicals and multi-media productions.  The company's two-theater complex on 36th Street includes the 65-seat Main Stage Theater and the 35-seat Jewel Box Theater.  The film Finding Neverland began as the stage play The Man Who Was Peter Pan by Allen Knee, which was presented by the company in 1998. The WorkShop has also presented premiere productions of the plays Angel Wings by Murray Schisgal (who is best known for Luv and the screenplay of Tootsie) and 1348 by Tom Dulack (Breaking Legs).

The remaining performances are on September 24th, 29th, 30th, October 1st, 4th, 5th, and 8th, weekdays at 8:00 pm, and Saturdays at 7:00 pm.  Tickets are $15.00, $10.00 with current student ID--TDF accepted.  For reservations please call 212-695-4173 or visit TheaterMania.com to purchase tickets online.  For more information, visit www.workshoptheater.org.
