The Abingdon Theatre Company will present a reading of Charles Messina's play A ROOM OF MY OWN, starring Mario Cantone on April 21, 2015. The comedy is based on Messina's life growing up in Greenwich Village in the late 1970s.

The Abingdon Theatre has committed to a full production of the play next season in Spring 2016. The autobiographical play is a bawdy, family comedy revolving around a writer telling the story of his life, as events and characters start to slowly slip away from his control.

In addition to Cantone, who plays the comically cantankerous Uncle Jackie, the stellar cast for the reading also includes Ralph Macchio, Johnny Tammaro, Joli Tribuzio, Antoinette LaVecchia, Michael Barbieri, Anthony DeSando, Kendra Jain and Michael Townsend Wright.
Charles Messina has become a strong voice on the NY theatre scene. His plays present a world that is wholly and uniquely New York. In addition to directing the long-running show The Accidental Pervert, starring Andrew Goffman, Mr. Messina's Mercury: The Afterlife and Times of a Rock God about the life of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury has also received across-the-board critical acclaim.

Since 1993, the Abingdon Theatre Company has developed and produced new plays by American Playwrights exclusively. Under the artistic direction of Jan Buttram, the company provides a safe home in which playwrights collaborate with other theatre artists and receive audience feedback through the utilization of our four-step development process: First Readings, Staged Readings, and Workout Labs, which culminate in Studio Productions and Mainstage Productions. ATC is now celebrating its 21st season. Find more information at www.abingdontheatre.org.

The reading is by invitation only. For more information please call (212) 252-6910 or visit www.abingdontheatre.org.
