ABQ Theatre Guild Youth Scholarship Applications Now Available; Deadline 4/12

The Albuquerque Theatre Guild has announced that applications are now available for the fifth year of its Youth Theatre Scholarship Program. The program helps children and youth learn about live theater by providing scholarships to participate in extra-curricular theater-education programs offered by Albuquerque Theatre Guild member organizations.

"Theater skills benefit children's education and development in physical, artistic, critical thinking and social development areas. Studies show that students involved in the arts tend to have higher academic performance and better standardized test scores, too," says ATG President Hugh Witemeyer. "Add the additional benefits of improved self-confidence, better public speaking skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with others, and studying theater can be a great starting point for any eventual career. The ATG scholarship program is a fantastic opportunity for any young person, regardless of means, to get theatrical training."

Up to eight scholarships for as much as $100 each will be awarded in May 2013. Applications must be postmarked no later than April 12, 2012, and are available on the ATG website www.abqtheatre.org. Applicants must be between 5 and 17 years of age. Scholarships must be used between June 1, 2013, and May 31, 2014 for tuition at programs offered by ATG member organizations.

The Albuquerque Theatre Guild is an award winning 501(c)(3), non-profit umbrella organization dedicated to making the Albuquerque area's rich live-theatre scene better known to both residents and visitors alike.
