Celebrating the grand music of life with gusto is Mariachi Sol De Mexico, the greatest mariachi ensemble in the history of the world! Under the direction of band founder and artistic director José Hernández, this multi Grammy winning band of trumpets and violins, violas and guitars, exemplifies the festive spirit of traditional mariachi with a modern, fast-paced, theatrical flare. This is not your abuela's mariachi! Oh, yes, it's so much more.

Mariachi Sol De Mexico de José Hernández is credited with sending mariachi far beyond the village plaza into elegant concert halls and theaters around the world. Considered America's premier mariachi group, these 13 men, always decked out in richly embroidered traditional finery, have collaborated with such diverse superstars as Willie Nelson and The Beach Boys, and have placed their art on the silver screen, appearing in such blockbuster films as "Seabiscuit" and "Glory Road." They've also performed for four U.S. Presidents and have enjoyed packed concert halls from Lincoln Center to such isolated places as Pyongyang, North Korea.

Now, José Hernández and his masterful ensemble of vocalists, harpist, 6 violinists, 3 trumpeters, 3 guitarists comes to the acoustically supreme Spencer Theater for two shows, Thursday, August 25 & Friday, August 26 at 8 p.m. The performances are sponsored by the R.D. & Joan Dale Hubbard Foundation, the Ruidoso-based philanthropic organization which supports educational initiatives through the arts and humanities.

For those new to this rich tradition of Mexican music, mariachi songs are festive, theatrical and deeply romantic, suggesting all things are possible in this wonderful life. Traditionally a street music that often scored weddings, the celebratory horns, strings and choral folk vocals sing of humor, spirit, and even the bittersweet, altogether inspiring us to wake to a world where we live out our dreams. That is life, and that is education, and that is the magic of the performing arts! Check out this most impactful of all mariachi groups the world has ever know. Excellent seats are available for $39-$69. Call the Box Office at 575.336.4800 or visit www.spencertheater.com for tickets.
