North End Music & Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) is a 501(c)(3) community music school and performing arts center. We exist to enrich Charlestown, the North End, and surrounding Boston neighborhoods with accessible, high-quality arts programming and performances.

  • We believe the arts are an expression of our shared humanity.
  • We believe the arts are an antidote to stress, a source of comfort and hope, and an innate connection builder.
  • We believe the arts transform a neighborhood into a community.

As a performing arts school, NEMPAC reaches approximately 1,355 students per week, offering programs across several art disciplines, including dance, movement, and theatre, focusing on music education. Through partnerships with local schools in the North End and surrounding neighborhoods, students receive free, in-school music education.

NEMPAC's Youth Musical Theatre Program has classes in musical theatre acting and dance for ages 4 - 9, productions for students ages 6 - 13, and summer workshops and productions for ages 4 - 15.

  • Classes: Provide students with a better understanding of how they can tell a story with their bodies, voices, and imaginations. Through games, improvisation, and rehearsals, students build their communication, public speaking, and collaboration skills. Their confidence and self-esteem grow as they participate in theatre: the perfect creative outlet to let the imagination run wild!
  • Productions: NEMPAC puts on three youth musicals per year -
    • Fall Holiday Production for grades 2 - 7 in collaboration with the Charlestown Working Thater (September - December)
    • Winter Junior Troupers Production for grades 1 - 2 (January - March)
    • Spring Mainstage Musical for grades 1 - 8 (January - May)
  • Summer Workshops
    • Musical Theatre Workshops for ages 5 - 9: One-week, full-day production workshops with different show titles each week.
    • Junior Musical Theatre & Dance Workshops for age 4 - 6: One-week, full day musical theatre and dance enrichment workshops.
    • Broadway Bootcamp Workshops for ages 10 - 13 and 12 - 15: One week, full day musical theatre and dance workshops with a showcase at the end.
    • PlayLab: Create, Produce, Perform for ages 8 - 10: One week, full day workshop where students develop their own musical production.
