Bringing together more than four centuries of painting, a new exhibition will place Old Masters alongside Impressionist, modern and contemporary artists to explore the surprising connections between works created hundreds of years apart.

Echoes Across Time, presented by Kocerova Fine Art, will take over the ground floor of Simon C Dickinson Ltd, coinciding with Frieze Week. Rather than arranging works chronologically or by artistic movement, the exhibition will group them according to five simple ideas - Duration, Pause, Cycle, Flash and Infinity - inviting visitors to look at how artists across different periods have captured passing time, fleeting moments, repetition, memory and change.

The exhibition will bring major names from art history into conversation with later and emerging artists. Works by Pieter Bruegel the Younger, Balthasar van der Ast, Salvator Rosa, Jean-

Baptiste-Camille Corot, Honoré Daumier, Adolphe Monticelli, André Derain, Maurice de Vlaminck and Emil Nolde will feature alongside contemporary work, creating connections across centuries rather than presenting art history as a straight timeline.

At the heart of Echoes Across Time is the idea that artists working hundreds of years apart can be interested in remarkably similar things. A Northern European landscape recording the changing seasons might sit alongside a much later work concerned with memory; a still life capturing abundance before it disappears can be seen in relation to the immediacy of colour and gesture in modern painting.

The five sections give visitors different ways into the works. Duration looks at seasonality, labour and everyday life through artists including Bruegel and Grimmer; Pause brings together quieter landscapes by Corot, Rosa and de Bloot; and Cycle explores repetition, prosperity and decay through still life and urban painting. Flash moves into the immediate impact of colour and gesture with artists including Vlaminck, Nolde and Daumier, while Infinity considers how colour, imagination and memory can make a painting feel detached from a single moment in time.

The exhibition marks Daria Kocerova’s debut as a dealer, following her previous experience as an art adviser at an auction house; Kocerova is interested in finding fresh ways to present and collect art, particularly for a new generation of collectors.

Alongside the paintings, Echoes Across Time expands into fine jewellery through a collaboration with Allison Quaid, a house with 105 years of heritage. Their passion for collecting across Europe, the United States and Asia deepen the dialogue between jewel and canvas, bringing the exhibition's conversation between past and present into new forms.

With works spanning more than 400 years, Echoes Across Time asks visitors to forget the usual divisions between Old Masters, Impressionism, Modernism and contemporary art and instead consider what the works have in common - and how artists separated by centuries can still speak to one another.
