Shakespeare Theatre Company will present the annual return of the long-beloved D.C. benefit event, Will on the Hill. Learn more and see how to attend here!
Some of you might know today's subject Michael Urie from his work on the tv series Ugly Betty but his career as a stage, film and TV actor goes far beyond that one famous TV show. He can currently be seen onstage at Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) in Jane Anger playing the role of William Shakespeare. The production runs through January 8th at STC's Klein Theatre.
“What’s past is prologue” Prospero says in The Tempest, but when the present passes into the past what’s left is Will on the Hill and Far Away, the earnest and frequently successful effort by Congressmen to do Shakespeare funny. In this annual exercise, designed to raise funds for arts education, members of both Houses, as well as various other political luminaries (Washington is crawling with them), put themselves in preposterous situations which magically turn out well, just as characters in the Bard’s plays often do.
On Monday, June 7, Members of Congress and distinguished Washington influencers from both sides of the aisle will travel back to Shakespeare's day for one evening only! Following upon the success of last summer's virtual Will on the Hill, this year's performance will also be online with pay-what-you-will pricing.
Yesterday, in a virtual townhall meeting for staff, season subscribers, and donors, Artistic Director Simon Godwin and Executive Director Chris Jennings shared the lineup for Shakespeare Theatre Company's revised 2020/21 season.
Will on the Hill...or Wona??t They? is almost like attending a lecture on Shakespeare by multiple enthusiast professors, but it leaves the audience with a major case of a?oeZoom fatigue.a??
