GALA Hispanic Theatre proudly presents the world premiere of Sucede hasta en las mejores familias (Choke), a powerful new play by Los Angeles-based playwright Emilio T. Infante, running from April 24 – May 18, 2025. Directed by GALA Artistic Director Gustavo Ott, this timely work blends humor and drama to explore intergenerational conflict, environmental justice, and corporate power through a uniquely Latino lens. Choke follows the Guerrero family as a medical crisis exposes deep divides—within their home and against a corporation threatening their community. With sharp wit and raw emotion, Choke is a gripping reflection of today’s American society. A rising voice in contemporary theater, Infante examines the dissociation between humans and the environment along the Mexico/U.S. borderlands and the ecological identity of the Chicano community. Choke is his latest exploration of these urgent themes, brought to life on the GALA stage in a production that promises to be as thought-provoking as it is entertaining. Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm in Spanish with English surtitles. The production is recommended for ages 14+ and runs approximately two hours, including a 15-minute intermission.
GALA Hispanic Theatre is at 3333 14th Street NW, Washington, DC 20010, Washington.
