LAS 22+ BODAS DE HUGO – The 22+ Weddings of Hugo
By Gustavo Ott
Directed by José Zayas
September 5 - 29, 2024
World Premiere in Spanish with English surtitles
Why in the world does Hugo, a quiet postal clerk, keep getting married? Based on a true story, The 22+ Weddings of Hugo Multiple by Gustavo Ott is a raucous tale of “a beautiful crime” that delves into several hidden themes of our day, from empathy and immigration, to love in times of hatred, and the universal need to find refuge in a place, person, or a feeling.
This play won the 2018 Marius Gottin Award for non-Francophone plays from the Écriture Théâtrale Contemporaine Caraïbe.
A comforting and sweet time, The 22+ Weddings of Hugo offers a little taste of everything on the menu. It may leave you wanting something more substantial, but none the less was delicious along the way.
GALA Hispanic Theatre will present the world premiere of The 22+ Weddings of Hugo (Las 22+ bodas de Hugo) in Spanish by Venezuelan playwright and GALA’s Artistic Director Gustavo Ott from September 5 to 29, 2024.
