Bulrusher by Eisa Davis, directed by Associate Artistic Director Deidra LaWan Starnes, follows an orphan with a gift for clairvoyance who was found floating in a basket on the river as an infant. She navigates a world of eccentric characters including a taciturn schoolteacher, a disciplined madam, a logger, and a guitar-slinging boy, until a girl from Alabama arrives and gives her an entirely new sense of self. Passionate, lyrical, and filled with down-home humor, the play is described as a gleaming marriage of poetry and myth.
