IN 2015 THEATRE MAKER RACHEL MARS HAD THE BEST CONVERSATION OF HER LIFE. IT WAS WITH AN AFGHAN TAXI DRIVER. FOR 45 MINUTES THEY TOLD EACH OTHER GAGS FROM WHERE THEY GREW UP.
The length of a typical stand up comedian's headline set, JOKE TRANSLATION SERVICE is a group of people telling each other their most beloved jokes from the cultures they grew up in, and if the other doesn't get them, trying their best to explain them until they do.
It is a refusal to be wedged apart by toxic and fearful political doctrine; a space to construct communication between two people with different national, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, through a love of gags.
So far piloted in Leeds and Glasgow, it is also funny, not funny, extremely confusing and very frustrating.
