The Vogue Ball is now just 10 days away - and the final preparations are being made to ensure this year's evening is the most daring and fabulous to date.

House of Suarez is behind the Saturday, 21 October event, which will see the multi award-winning ball return to Liverpool's Invisible Wind Factory.

The dockside venue will be transformed to reflect the theme of the 2017 ball, the Se7en Deadly Sins, complete with a 100ft catwalk.

The ball invites the best Vogue teams [known as 'Houses'] to battle it out in a fight for ultimate dance supremacy. And all Voguers' favourite parts of the evening are back once again, along with a new category for 2017 - the Lip Sync Battle.

And 2017 will also see the return of popular host Rikki Beadle-Blair.

This year organisers appealed for emerging costume designer-makers from across the UK to come forward and showcase their talents through three funded costume commissions - on the themes of fantasy, realness and sex siren.

And after considering a strong field of contenders, the successful designers were chosen as Ryan Boulton, from Oldham (fantasy), Wirral's David Graham who won the realness category for a second year, and Londoner Lucy Firth (sex siren). Their epic and beautiful creations will be on show on the runway next weekend.

Meanwhile this year's event will also welcome a special new commission which puts deaf and disability arts and artists at the heart of the action. Fittings Multimedia Arts will present Vogue: The Unlimited House of Krip, which celebrates the fusion of deaf and disabled performers with the gloriously extravagant world of vogue ball culture.

Vogueing often imitates the perfect lines and flexibility of model poses seen in magazines such as Vogue, the fashion bible from which the dance style took its name.

The Vogue Ball was inspired by the underground balls begun in the 60s and 70s in New York's LGBT communities - and that were then popularised by the documentary film Paris is Burning and by Madonna's hit single Vogue.

Darren Suarez, Artistic Director of House of Suarez, said: "The 2016 Vogue Ball was a great success, and I'm confident that with the exciting new elements we have this year, the 2017 event will be even better.

"One thing is certain - we can promise our Voguers a superbly stylish and sinful night out."

An after-party will take place following the Ball, and House of Suarez is set to announce the launch of a new quarterly club night - Liverpool Is Burning - which will be held in the basement club at the Invisible Wind Factory.

A dance form popular in the 1970s and 80s, Vogueing began in the New York gay scene as a non-aggressive battle between two feuding individuals or group (houses) who chose to use dance instead of violence to settle differences. Vogueing often imitated the perfect lines and flexibility of model poses seen in fashion magazine such as Vogue, from which the dance got its name. No touching was allowed during vogue challenges, even though dancers would often become intertwined in each other's extended arms, legs and hand moves. The Voguer with the best dance moves was declared the winner of the battle. There were different styles of the vogue, including pantomimes or moves imitating the challenger. The Vogue Ball will showcase this stunning form of dance, which is now synonymous with Madonna's massive 1990s hit 'Vogue'.
