WHAT THE BUTLER SAW Plays the Liddy Doenges Theatre, 1/8-1/10

By: Jan. 03, 2010

'What the Butler Saw', a British black comedy' will be presented by Theatre Tulsa at the Liddy Doenges Theatre starting January 8 thru January 10.

A farcical British black comedy with absurd situations and witty dialogue in the style of Oscar Wilde, What the Butler Saw is the final play written by Joe Orton. Orton, a master of the outrageously macabre, is known for his razor sharp sociosexual commentary that tests the boundaries of traditional theatre.

It's the swinging '60s, and Dr. Prentice is seeking a secretary for his psychiatric practice. His interview process, however, seems to require seducing the potential candidate! The unexpected arrival of Mrs. Prentice incites chaos as the doctor rushes to conceal his affair, but unbeknownst to him, Mrs. Prentice is embroiled in a scandal of her own.

Enter a cross-dressing bellhop, a suspicious state investigator, a bumbling sergeant, and an exploding statue of Winston Churchill -- a volatile combination sure to result in confusion and uncontrollable laughter!

NOTE: Recommended for mature audience
