Cynthia Erivo, Michael Feinstein Onder Hoofdlijnen voor het…

Tony-winnaar Cynthia Erivo en musicaltheaterperformer Michael Feinstein behoren tot de hoofdacts die zijn bevestigd voor het Nationale Boekenfestival van de Bibliotheek van het Congres, dat op zaterdag 22 augustus terugkeert in het Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

Als literaire traditie arriveert het Nationale Boekenfestival 2026 als onderdeel van de viering van de Bibliotheek van Amerika 250: Your Story, en biedt een veelzijdige vertelervaring met uitgebreid programma. Gedurende de dag zullen aanwezigen gesprekken horen met meer dan 80 auteurs uit een verscheidenheid aan literaire genres. Daarnaast zal er programmering zijn die zich richt op muziek, film, opgenomen geluid, geschiedenis van veteranen, Amerikaans folklife en meer, wat een venster biedt naar de enorme reikwijdte van de collecties en programma's van de Bibliotheek het hele jaar door.

Erivo zal aanwezig zijn om haar memoires, “Simply More: A Book for Anyone Who Has Been Told They’re Too Much,” te bespreken. Zanger en pianist Feinstein reflecteert op zijn samenwerking met Liza Minelli aan haar memoires “Kids, Wait Till You Hear This!” Andere hoofdacts zijn onder meer regisseur Martin Scorsese, performer Kate McKinnon, schrijver Ann Patchett, en meer. Het Nationale Boekenfestival vindt plaats op zaterdag 22 augustus van 9.00 tot 20.00 uur in het Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. De deuren gaan open om 8.30 uur. Het festival is gratis en toegankelijk voor iedereen. Voor het eerst dit jaar zijn gratis kaarten vereist voor toegang tot het festival, maar niet voor individuele programma's binnen het festival. Kaarten kunnen gereserveerd worden op loc.gov/bookfest.

Al meer dan een kwart eeuw komt het Nationale Boekenfestival samen met diegenen die van lezen houden en de auteurs die hen inspireren voor een dag van ontdekking. Het festival werd voor het eerst georganiseerd door de Bibliotheek van het Congres in 2001 met de voormalige first lady Laura Bush, die geïnspireerd was door het zeer succesvolle Texas Boekenfestival dat zij had opgericht.

Naast de verscheidenheid aan gesprekken met auteurs, biedt het festival een breed scala aan gezinsvriendelijke activiteiten, workshops en interactieve programma's voor deelnemers van alle leeftijden. Deze omvatten verhalen vertellen in het Story District; praktische activiteiten die wetenschap en verhalen vertellen verbinden in het STEM District; leer mogelijkheden in de Workshop Space; presentaties van Bibliotheekexperts over innovatief werk dat plaatsvindt in de Bibliotheek van de natie; en een literaire reis door het land in de Roadmap to Reading.

Voor boekenliefhebbers die niet in persoon naar het festival kunnen komen, worden evenementen op het Main Stage live gestreamd op loc.gov/bookfest. Video's van presentaties zullen kort na het festival beschikbaar komen op loc.gov en op het YouTube-kanaal van de Bibliotheek.

C-SPAN's Book TV keert terug naar het Nationale Boekenfestival als mediapartner om geselecteerde evenementen live te streamen en uitgelichte auteurs te interviewen. Mediapartners zijn ook WAMU, NPR en The Washington Post.
